Board Member - Employee Representative
CurrentAs a member of the board of directors, I work with strategy and the direction of the company, finances, budget, goals, acquisitions, etc.
Product Manager
CurrentI have been responsible to be part of establishing the company’s portfolio management process, i.e. devising methods for evaluating initiatives, aligning the roadmap with the overall strategy, setting up common methods for business case calculations and criteria for business risk analysis.I am responsible for the software solutions that we do to expand the business of our company to include specialty analyses in the hematology field. I identify what will create the most value for our customers as well as for our business and am the interface between different departments within the company as well as with external contacts such as our distributors. Since specialty reagents are required for these analyses, I work closely with our reagents division.
Development Manager Applications
As Development Manager I was responsible for leading one development team. I was ultimately responsible for the team's work and was responsible for product quality, compliance with regulatory requirements and that products and product changes could be put into production. The role included a managerial responsibility for employees in the team.I built a team consisting of an even mix of males and females, which was uncommon in such a technology heavy business as ours and coming from six different nations. eNPS was very high on the employee surveys. We delivered several projects among other a veterinary application that revolutionize blood cell morphology analyses for birds, that was previously only possible using fully manual methods. We also adapted and refined the human analyses so they could be run on the new hardware platform. Recruitment, both filling open positions in the short-term and building relations with students for the long-term, was a crucial part of my job and I built up a team that specialized in programming, machine learning and digital image processing that was used in our software to automatically classify cells in blood and body fluids. In my role I coached and encouraged my co-workers so they could reach their full potential. As part of my job, I revised their salaries, evaluated performances and drove development plans. Another related task was supervising master’s thesis on a regular basis, usually in the field of machine learning.I was also responsible for planning, resource allocation and budgeting for several parallel projects. The projects my team was working on were led by me together with the Product Manager and Test Leader.
Patent Manager
I was responsible for handling CellaVisions patent portfolio part time. Several patents were approved during my time, I learnt a lot about using IP as a strategic business tool and with this knowledge I developed a new patent strategy for the company.I helped inventors with their ideas to develop them into patentable inventions. I also handled the submission of new applications, responses to examiners, performed freedom to operate and freedom to develop searches and patent landscaping.
Project Manager
I was responsible for a project that delivered a new advanced red blood cell application to the market. This application has become a big success with customers and generate a large part of CellaVisions software revenue. I also designed, implemented, handled expert labelling of images and trained the actual machine learning software in this project. As project manager I was responsible for the time plan and budget; I interfaced with all project stakeholders; worked closely with a product owner to define user needs and had the role as scrum-master for the development team.
Research Manager
As Research Manager I was responsible for the contacts between CellaVision and academia, e.g. recruiting and supervising multiple Master’s Thesis students. I also continued working as the machine learning expert.
Software Engineer
I was responsible for all machine learning at the company. I lead a team of three in the design, implementation, data collection and training of the peripheral blood classification for the DM96 hardware platform.I designed, implemented, handled all data collection and expert labeling, and trained the classification software for peripheral blood and body fluid for the DM1200 platform. I worked almost exclusively in C++ using Visual Studio and developed our own Neural Network classes, developed a novel optimization method for training making it possible to train larger nets on regular CPU's than was usually possible at the time. I implemented several features used as input for the Neural Networks. As a part of this I wrote libraries and methods for computing Wavelet transforms, fractal dimensions, bilateral filters, Kuwahara filters etc.I designed and implemented the image enhancement method used in the DM1200 platform. I.e. the normalization used for transforming the camera images to be as true to microscope colours and dynamics as possible using among other tone-mapping algorithms of my own design.During these years I had the opportunity to see the company develop from a start-up, through the tough years of the IT-crisis into a well functional mature company.
Associate Professor
I worked mostly with education. Teaching Linear Algebra, Analysis in one and several variables. I also continued on my research on vector tomography.
