My unusual path of a dairy farmer turned physician has been an exciting journey of biological experiences and many great acquaintances. During my education at Ross University School of Medicine I had the privilege of observing rare and interesting medical conditions and recently published a Case Review - Primary Pancreatic Tuberculosis Mimicking Pancreatic Lymphoma in an Immunocompetent Patient. Prior to my medical education I earned a BA in Biological Sciences with minors in Biochemistry/Biotechnology and Chemistry at Minnesota State University Moorhead. During that time, I participated in vaccinology research for the development of a peptide antigen hookworm vaccine. I also have ten years of experience with bovine fertility, most notably in the area of bovine embryo transplantation, where morula stage embryos are collected from super-ovulated donor females and transplanted into surrogate females. But perhaps the most unusual aspect of my path to medicine is an extensive background in agriculture based on 18 years of experience as a Dairy Farm Owner/Operator. During this period, I had first-hand exposure in the technical aspects of food production and marketing including the use of genetically modified organisms. Most recently, I have utilized an interim period to teach Anatomy and Physiology at the collegiate level. This has proven to be an excellent lesson in communication for me in addition to a great review of my own medical curriculum. My hope is, this teaching experience will expand my aspirations to becoming a medical educator in the future.
