ZimmerFrei means Vacancy and it’s a method for traveling with no set schedule, which we did about 30 years ago through Europe by car...never making a lodging reservation. We’d just look for little Zimmer Frei signs in the window and stop at one of those ‘vacancies’. It was total flexibility...total freedom. As founders, we've stayed 1000's of nights in mostly big brand hotels. We've had every gimmick, bait & switch, price normalization, and hidden fee possible. It was a Tuesday night at 10:45pm that was the final straw. The company, ZimmerFrei, was born that night when out of pure frustration we wondered why we couldn't have the type of travel experience we had all those years ago. Booking a hotel today is painful and it’s a process that hasn’t evolved in decades. Expedia, Airbnb (etc.) don’t allow for easy or fast booking decisions. Customers can take up to 2 hours scouring mostly chain hotel listings before finally deciding on a hotel. And there are 40,000 independent Inn’s and Hotels in the US alone—all offering the kinds of experiences that people want—but these places are INVISIBLE on current platforms.The most memorable hotel stays, whether traveling on business or leisure, are the ones we stumbled upon—never knowing they were there. It is with this premise in mind that ZimmerFrei is built to bring geolocation exposure to unique inns & hotels, as well as 'hyper-local' things to do that only a local friend would know.
