Kenya D. Morris is a native of Los Angeles, California, and received her collegiate education as a communications student with a concentration in Radio/TV/Film Production, and a minor in Theatre Arts at Howard University in Washington, DC. Kenya has had over 15 years of experience as a communications professional and community outreach advocate. In addition to communications, Kenya is also passionate about the arts. She has written and performed in a number of plays in the DC metro area. Kenya served as the Creative Director of MaineDrama Productions, a production company that uses writing, media, theatre and the arts to bring awareness to social issues. In 2014, she co-wrote and co-directed “Point...Blank...Period!” (PBP), a riveting episodic play composed of spoken word, monologues, and short scenes. PBP was chosen to participate in the Capital Fringe Festival in 2014 and experienced a 5 show sold-out run and stellar reviews & coverage by dctheatrescene.com, dcmetrotheatrearts.com, Washington City Paper, and ABC Channel 7 WJLA. Kenya is the co-founder of an initiative entitled #BlackMentalHealthMatters, which evolved from a Twitter conversation into a movement created to provide underserved communities with mental health resources and break the stigma of mental illness. She is delighted to combine her passions for communications, mental health, and community outreach by now serving as the Evaluation and Engagement Senior Program Coordinator with the Minority Fellowship Program at the American Psychological Association. It is her desire utilize her skills to make a positive impact on the world, while equipping others to do the same.
