Washington Invasive Species Council intern. Created written and visual outreach and educational materials and prepared many materials for printing. Attended graphic design trainings and used skills to create visual materials using Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator. Staffed outreach booths and gave presentations on invasive species to mixed-ages amateur and professional groups. Recruited program partners for an outreach campaign; used GIS skills to create map of participant locations. Created content for and edited WISC website using Adobe Dreamweaver. Facilitated inter-agency webinars and completed other administrative tasks as assigned.

Employed ArcGIS to map stormwater features on WA state roads from asbuilts. Utilized Microsoft Office suite for various tasks.

Greatly enhanced plant ID skills and knowledge of wetland ecosystems and functions. Worked outdoors sampling vegetation qualitatively and quantitatively; meticulously recorded data on tablet; performed statistical analysis of data for final report. Used dichotomous keys and dissecting microscope to identify unknown plants in lab and learn basic botany. Participated in graduate seminar to deepen understanding of wetland mitigation.

Practiced chipper, chainsaw, and leaf blower maintenance and operation. Hauled branches and wood rounds from tree to truck and chipper. Assisted with tree and shrub pruning and cleanup of job site. Drove truck to and from work sites.

Worked outdoors in all weather on a 6-person Urban Forestry crew. Learned to ID native and invasive plants of the Pacific Northwest while learning about local ecosystems. Combated noxious weeds with digging tools, brushcutter, chainsaw, herbicide lance, cut stumping, and backpack spraying techniques; built rafts to compost invasive plants on. Live staked, planted and mulched native trees and shrubs; pruned street trees; collected data on work completed using ArcGIS Collector and Trimble GPS and wrote weekly and monthly production reports. Gave short educational presentations on plants to crew. Trained in Forestry Basics, Grant Writing; attended other educational seminars. Worked alongside arborists, local project partners, volunteer coordinators, other crews, and interacted with the public at work sites. Trained and led volunteer groups MLK day 2015. Upheld safe urban working practices at all times.

Worked in Groundwater Resources Management Unit including Domestic Well Testing program. Quickly learned new skills including: GW_Chart to create piper diagrams and Excel to manage large volumes of water quality data and create graphs. Sampled well water following strict sampling procedures to prevent contamination; scheduled sampling appointments with homeowners using Outlook and Access; took incoming calls from Groundwater Hotline. Informed public about groundwater quality issues.
