Cels Business Services Ltd (CBSL) is the commercial arm of the Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences, Cels, a healthcare sector specialist organisation. Achievements:Created and grew the commercial services portfolio.Won contracts with key public sector clients including Regional Development Agencies, Universities, NHS Trusts and Central Government.Delivered, managed and led client focused consultancy assignments.Created a pool of specialist resources and professional associates.

CELS works with the Regional Development Agency (RDA) ONE North East to co-ordinate and steer strategic activities and initiatives within the health, healthcare and life sciences economy of North East England. Achievements:Creation of “The Healthcare Network”, a membership organisation for 160+ regional healthcare companies.One on one coaching and mentoring assistance for Spin out and New Start companies in the Healthcare Sector.Commissioning and steering studies into the composition of, and key issues facing, the sector within the region. Supporting Inward Investment opportunities.Leading outward missions to EU and Chinese markets for regional companies.Participating in the development and delivery of the Strategic Direction for CELS and for the Sector with the explicit intention of creating regional Jobs and increasing the region’s GVA.

Created by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to create and manage a network of 25 Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) to deliver the Skills Agenda on behalf of the Government.Achievements:Completed the License Application process for Proskills the Sector Skills Council for the Process and Manufacturing Industries.Established the “Exploitation of IT” project, led by e-Skills, but covering the entire Skills for Business Network as a Cross Sector project.Worked with the lead organisations in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Eire to coordinate the efforts to improve Employability through the “Skills for Life” scheme.Worked with SEMTA, the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing to support and position Maths as a Key Skill within the workplace.Worked with CILT, the National Centre for Languages to promote language skills within the workplace and encourage the uptake of language training for employees.

A product development and manufacturing company, producing plastic components and assemblies for the automotive, medical and consumer goods industries. Formed by merging three companies to create a vertically integrated supply chain company.Achievements:Key member of the merger team.Relocated the companies onto a single site and integrated the production activities.Transformed the injection moulding cell into a low volume first tier supplier to the automotive sector. Rationalised the supplier base, improving material procurement, and simplifying goods in/out procedures.Achieved annualised savings of £380k through restructuring and waste elimination Unified the ISO9000:2000 systems in three companies, gaining accreditation for the whole group.

A service company to the Product Development Industry, using leading edge technology, producing physical prototypes from CAD data.Achievements:Created AMSYS Rapid Prototyping Ltd by leading a Management Buy Out.Raised £1m in funding.Tripled turnover within 15 months to £1.2mBuilt the company into the foremost facility of its type in the UK, and established a prestigious client base.

Created “The Advanced Manufacturing Systems Centre” (AMSYS), a new start commercial venture to support the regeneration of the region’s SME manufacturing base by providing practical consultancy programmes and best practice business solutions.Worked with over 100 local manufacturing companies, helping them to introduce IT systems to support manufacturing and to improve financial control.Diversified the company into Rapid Prototyping in 1994. This pioneering service grew to become the main activity of the group.Grew the service from a zero sales base in the UK to a turnover of £400k in 18 months. The service became an essential step in the product development life cycle for a range of Blue Chip clients.
