As the Director of Academic & College Counseling at Crossings Christian School (CCS) in Northwest Oklahoma City, I am committed to guiding students on their journey toward college, career, and life success. Since transitioning from my role as an English teacher to Academic Counselor in 2009, I have been dedicated to providing comprehensive support to our upper school students. CCS, now the largest private school in Oklahoma City, serves approximately 1,300 students from PK through 12th grade.My approach is rooted in intentionality, beginning with rising freshmen and their families, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed for a successful future. I annually update my college planning guide, Guiding Faithful Futures: A Christian Approach To College, Career, and Life Preparation for High School Students and Parents, which distills insights from the latest resources on college preparation, standardized testing, college search, application processes, and financing options.I train students on using SCOIR, a premier college and career planning platform, from the onset of their high school journey, encouraging them to explore and plan early. Each year, our seniors participate in Camp College, where I lead small groups through the intricacies of college applications, financial aid, scholarships, letters of recommendation, and crafting compelling personal statements. This event culminates in a College Fair, providing seniors with the opportunity to engage directly with college representatives, starting their final year with confidence.Beyond college and career counseling, I organize and oversee Pre-ACT, ACT, PSAT, and AP testing, manage student schedules, and coordinate dual credit course offerings. Our juniors and seniors gain practical insights through job shadowing experiences, pairing them with professionals in fields of interest. My involvement extends beyond academics, as I lead a small group of high school girls, serve as a senior class sponsor, and actively participate in student events. This holistic approach ensures I focus on each student’s overall development, not just their academic achievements.I also coordinate key end-of-year events, including the awards assembly, senior luncheon, Senior Chapel, Waffles & Wisdom, and graduation. Continuously striving to learn and enhance my approach, I am passionate about making a lasting impact on the lives of my students.
