I'm currently serving as Chief Innovation Officer at the University of Austin, and I'm an inventor and founder with two previous exits. I also serve on the Board of Directors at Qwake, an IoT company that makes an AR platform for firefighters, and Million on Mars, an AI-driven massively multiplayer online game company. My previous startup, Buoy Labs, won CES Innovation Award 2018, an Edison Award, was in Techcrunch Hardware Battlefield 2016, and was acquired by Resideo (NYSE:REZI) in 2019. Investors and partners included Delta Faucet Company, Sand Hill Angels, Highway1 Accelerator, and USAA. Before that, I sold a B2B mobile analytics company called Arqetype to Vivo Rewards Ltd. My first startup, Chopwood, accidentally became a professional services company after I tried to bootstrap it while building products. I can tell you about why you don't want to do that. Chopwood did, however, rewrite a huge mobile social network's backend for scale, lowering their hosting charges from $1M/mo to < $100k/mo with no downtime and increased performance.
