I started at Lawray as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant at the start of 2020 and used the pandemic as an opportunity to complete my Part 3 at Kingston University. I have ran a number of projects, primarily in the heritage and prime residential sectors. The first as project architect was Chalk Lane, the £4.2M refurbishment and extension of a Grade II listed coach hotel in Epsom, South London for a developer. The scheme had been designed by another architect and works had began on site however stalled after the contractor went into administration. During the due diligence phase, it emerged that a further Listed Building Consent was required and that the completed construction was of poor quality and would have to be rebuilt. I worked on acquiring the new statutory consents as well as the Stage 4 delivery, coordinating the output of the other consultants in Revit to allow work to resume on site. I have also recently completed the refurbishment of a townhouse in South Kensington, London for a private client. Similarly to Chalk Lane, the scheme had been designed by another architect however works stalled on site due to inadequate construction information. On review of the original information, I identified the gaps in the scheme and worked closely with the interior designer, Juliette Byrne, and Contractor, Lansgrove, to allow works to progress in tandem with the Stage 4 information. Although a Listed Building Consent had been obtained prior to our involvement, the design had developed so I was involved in the engagement with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to obtain the remaining consents. Currently I am working on the refurbishment and extension of a penthouse apartment in South Kensington as well as the renovation of a townhouse in Mayfair.

Whilst working at Brookes Architects, I worked on a number of prime residential projects for private clients and developers in London and the south west. All projects were Revit based, with Brookes acting as lead designer and coordinating the input of the rest of the team. I worked closely with Richstone Properties, a developer who specialises in prime residential projects, on a number of buildings within the Templeton Estate in Roehampton. The first was for the refurbishment and extension of a former agricultural building to provide 4x high end serviced properties. There were a normal of technical challenges to overcome such as the retention of the existing facade as well as achieving the 19% carbon reduction over Part L specified in a planning condition. Part of a later phase of the Templeton Estate master plan was the construction of the Dower House, a new detached high end rental property that would replace a former staff accommodation on the edge of the estate. Using revit for the coordination of the timber frame and mechanical services allowed us to reduce the overall project programme by entering fabrication early.

Glasgow

During my time at Sasanbell, now Corstorphine Wright, I worked on a mixture of feasibility studies, planning and early stage 4. At the time the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow had been granted museum status and wanted to upgrade and expand their archive space as well as convert their basement for use as a restaurant and function suite to provide an additional source of income. I worked with the project architect to survey the existing building and develop the brief with the client, this was the first listed building I worked on and began my interest in the technical challenges around working with heritage assets. I was also involved in the refurbishment of the lobby and third floor of 150 St Vincent Street in Glasgow, part of a rebranding project for the management company. I was involved in developing and submitting the planning application as well as working with suppliers on the specification and detailing of the bespoke joinery.

During my time at Holmes Miller as a Part 1, I mainly worked on Stage 4 delivery on healthcare and stadium projects. The first was on the North West Partnership Centre in Edinburgh, a new community centre that combined doctors surgery, dentist and early years daycare. I worked worked alongside the project architect on the late stage 4 deliverables such as the Room Elevations, using the NHS planning guidance for setting out the spaces in Revit. I was also involved in the early stage 4 information for Windsor Park in Belfast, the addition of two new stands to an existing football stadium in Belfast. I was involved with the Revit modelling of one of the quadrants that joined the new and existing stadiums, the sanitaryware drawing package and the ironmongery.
