Vision For Jamaica is an all-volunteer initiative, established to ensure Jamaican high school graduates are computer coding literate. We have begun this by going into primary schools and showing the students, via game playing, how easy it is to learn computer coding. Coding is the new literacy. Computer coding is the reading and writing of computer programming languages. We have begun today to equip our children to be successful tomorrow.OUR VISIONAll Jamaican High school graduates are coding competent.OUR MISSIONS-Vision For Jamaica will introduce coding into Jamaican primary schools to initiate an inclusion of basic coding skills as a prerequisite for high school graduation. -Vision For Jamaica will assemble a team of Coding Coaches who will mentor both a primary school student and a community elder. -Vision For Jamaica will recruit volunteer coders who will organize and run coding camps in Jamaica.THE WHY-Coding is the literacy of the future. -A generation ago, those who could not read and write were labeled illiterate and deemed unemployable, except at low wage, menial, manual labor jobs. A generation from today, those who cannot read and write at least one computer coding language will be the unemployable illiterates of that day.-The world is moving faster than our government's ability to respond.-Our children in Jamaica deserve this knowledge now. Vision For Jamaica will build the Jamaica our children deserve by introducing computer coding, via game playing, into our primary schools today.

I worked with a team to develop one of the leading entrepreneurship programs in the Caribbean. We refined training to exceed international standards and added support services such as coaching and access to finance to help accelerate growth in the business that we served. In 2015 we transferred our brick and mortar model which had a maximum capacity to serve 60 entrepreneurs per year to an online model where we have served 900+ entrepreneurs to date. My specific responsibilities were:Training (Online Learning, Community Moderation) Hosting drop in daysPlanning and Executing Workshops Investment Readiness Evaluation

As the first Executive Director of the organization I was responsible for many of the key activities of the organization. Some of my work included:- Represent the organization on the National ICT Advisory Council- Maintain relationships with ICT Policy organizations such as: Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), Diplomacy and Internet Governance (Diplo, Malta), Internet Society (ISOC)- Coordinate and facilitate workshops, presentations, etc- Assist in fund raising activities and the the writing of grant proposals- Promote the organization through the use of social networking tools, attendance at professional mixers, etc. - Manage projects using project management methodologiesBackground of ICT4D Jamaica: Arising out of the ICTs for National Development Conference staged January 29-31, 2003; the ICT4D Jamaica network was formed and officially launched in March 2004 ICT4D Jamaica is an open, Jamaican-based network organization established to define, promote and facilitate the use of information and communication technology in the development process. We believe that the secret to prosperity for all mankind lies in the effective use of information for learning and earning and that with reducing resources we must strive as a matter of policy to produce more with less if we are to achieve growth and competitiveness. ICT4D Jamaica (www.ict4djamaica.org) is supported by the HEART Trust/NTA, in whose offices the Secretariat is currently housed.
