We have worked on issues ranging from social connectedness and inclusion to food security, climate change, and public health, to name a few. As a program manager with BC Healthy Communities I broker partnerships with diverse sectors to facilitate the development of new programs that address pressing social and environmental issues. I am proud to work with an organization that values the role of learning, engagement, collaboration, and social innovation in addressing complex challenges. Currently, I am the program manager for PlanH as well as BC Housing’s Tenant Engagement on Sustainability pilot program. Beyond program management, my role also includes developing and delivering curriculum and workshops, supporting the ongoing development of a multi-sector provincial healthy communities network and supporting the management of a provincial community funding program. I taught a course called “Public Engagement and Communication: Influencing Change for Sustainability” as part of Royal Roads’ Certificate Program on Carbon & Energy Leadership. This practical 1 day course explored exciting new research from the psychological and social sciences on how people understand and engage with the issue of energy reduction and climate change. I introduce a spectrum of tools, approaches and methods that participants can use in the design of the own public engagement initiatives.

Vancouver, Bc

As part of the Climate Justice Project, I performed a feasibility study for a deliberative citizen engagement process on climate change policy for British Columbian communities. The Climate Justice Project is a 5 year research collaborative between the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, University of Northern BC and 25 community organizations.

Canada

I developed and coordinated a national action research project that examined opportunities and barriers for meaningful service learning between Canadian universities and community economic development organizations. This included supporting a learning network between universities, community economic development organizations and youth organizations.

I facilitated the development of a coalition of businesses, employment organizations and non-profits with the purpose of maximizing social outcomes through strategic procurement policies.This project involved conducting a feasibility study on a social economy purchasing network for Greater Victoria.

Western Canada

I lead a participatory action research project to evaluate WUSC’s Student Refugee Program in Western Canada. This program involved facilitating focus groups with refugees, students, faculty and staff around refugee sponsorship.

Western Canada

I was responsible for planning and implementing the Sierra Youth Coalition’s Sustainable Campuses Project for 7 universities in British Columbia. This program involved facilitating training workshops on how to conduct a campus-wide sustainability assessment for universities across BC.

Victoria, Bc

I worked with a team to develop environmental, social and health policy recommendations for the University of Victoria master planning process. Together, we organized a successful student referendum campaign on support for sustainability planning and policy.

Saskatoon, Sk

I initiated and helped to create the position of University Sustainability Coordinator. I was the lead researcher on the U of S’s first sustainability assessment including water, waste and energy consumption. This involved working with facilities managers, faculty, and university administrators to initiate the development of a multi-stakeholder sustainability committee.
