Born and raised in Brooklyn, my NYC arts education means the world to me. I attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts, where I received instruction in voice, theory, music history and opera theatre. I fell in love with chorus there. Vocal pedagogy being very important to me, I continued my education at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, earning a BM in Voice Performance. While at Oberlin, I sought out every music education-based opportunity I could, including conducting courses and assistantships, teaching private lessons to non-voice students and eventually becoming the music director of a community church choir. After graduation, I returned to New York, eager to forge an education path for myself. I started working at Brooklyn Music School as an after school counselor and was able to expand my role in a very short amount of time. Soon after I began, I was offered a position teaching group piano classes. Then I became a private voice teacher, building a studio of students of all ages. By next fall, I had taken over as the chorus teacher for their Arts Reaching Youth program and became the music director of their musical theatre department. I also worked with the administration to found the school’s adult chorus, Voices of Brooklyn. In the fall of 2019, I decided to return to academics and enroll in Brooklyn College’s 12-month advanced certificate program in music education, which leads to the NYS initial teaching license. In this program, I was able to dive further into various teaching methods, differentiation for all learners, classroom management and curriculum planning. Armed with my arts education and experience teaching several age demographics, I am passionate about giving back to the arts and the city that made me who I am today.
