As a chemist with over a decade of public safety and clinical experience, I possess a unique interdisciplinary skillset. After many years of prehospital care as a field medic, my attention to epidemiology during the pandemic renewed my interest in the natural sciences. I returned to the University of Texas at Austin for post-baccalaureate study in chemistry and biology in the Spring of 2021. I have since acquired an array of laboratory and analytical skills, from biodiversity research design to proteomics and organic synthesis. I'm just as at home in the laboratory as in the field, and I'm excited about what the coming year will bring to my career.Six random things about me, in no particular order:1.) My absolute favorite organic laboratory experiment was (successfully) synthesizing Luminol. 2.) My favorite analytical technique is either HPLC or MS, I can't decide yet.3.) I'm obsessed with native plants and fish: I even have two miniature backyard ponds stocked with Mosquito Fish. (Gambusia affinis)4.) I've driven an ambulance through Central Park, and have treated patients inside Sing Sing prison. (Working in NYC at some point was a bucket list item for me.)5.) I really am a native Austinite! Some of my family's farmland is now a nature preserve here.6.) My brain's favorite thing to do is play detective: gathering loads of pertinent information and synthesizing it to make a diagnosis or discovery is the fuel that keeps me going. (and sometimes awake at night)
