Kerry Gibson is a designer and Landscape Architecture masters student, currently studying at the University of British Columbia. Originally from the prairies, she now resides in so-called Vancouver, on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm(Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.Previous to Landscape Architecture, Kerry graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Communications Design from the Alberta College of Art + Design in Calgary. Kerry worked with several internationally recognized agencies, creating award winning brands and advertising campaigns before moving on to full time freelance work. As a freelancer, her work has often represented the community resiliency and local food sectors, including many start-ups and entrepreneurs. She excels at helping local makers & thinkers tell their story.Kerry has also worked as a tree planter and crew leader in the reforestation industry in northern British Columbia and on Vancouver Island, and has planted over one million trees. Following her inclination to blend ecology, sustainability, and design in landscape, in 2018 Kerry was accepted into the Landscape Architecture masters program at the UBC, where she is currently completing her graduate thesis. She is interested in using Landscape Architecture practise as a healing tool for decolonization and social justice.
