Have you ever looked at the problems plaguing South African society and wondered what you can do to help?Do you want to make sure your hard-earned money is transparently spent on the building of communities?The rising levels of need in the community are crippling entire families who have fallen into the poverty trap through no fault of their own. Too many young people are exposed to violence in the home, drugs, sexual abuse, and the occult, and they lack the skills to make meaningful decisions to stay away from such influences. They fall in with the wrong crowd, drop out of school and some even wind up incarcerated for criminal activities. They end up perpetuating the cycle of poverty, violence, and criminality that are already a part of their lives. Young people take the trauma of their childhoods into their futures, imposing them on the next generation, and the next. A child’s only hope to escape the poverty trap is through a good education, which remains a challenge in South Africa, where the quality of schooling is still dependent on parental income. Many youths leave the school system before completing their education. Even those that do are often only functionally literate, which means that they can read with fluency but little or no comprehension. The current focus is on youth center for young people between the ages of 18 and 24 who find themselves with nowhere else to go, having been abandoned by their families and written off by society. During their stay, they are equipped with skills to help them become employable or self employed upon their departure. They also learn the life skills they need to become self-reliant, productive members of the community who can pay it forward to others.
