Continued support of the SPM ecosystem after Microsystems was acquired by STERIS in 2019. Worked remotely with a team of nine other remote developers to support and enhance our commercial application written in WPF, WCF, and Entity Framework 6 while developing new functionality in React JS and .NET Core Web API for our supplemental web architecture.- Participated in vigorous discussion on migrating TFVC source-controlled projects to Git, and advocated strongly for preservation of as much history as possible for troubleshooting and support of our existing applications. Ultimately developed a tool that allowed us to migrate all of our assets to Git with a full 7 years of TFVC history preserved.- Updated SonarQube instance with a third-party plugin that allows us to run SonarQube as part of our pull request process and delivers branch analysis of the specific delta in code quality for the code being merged in.- As part of a small team tasked with setting up the future development environment and architecture for our next gen solution, worked to create assets that would benefit future developers, including a .NET solution template to allow developers to bootstrap a new segment of our architecture effortlessly, Dependabot maintenance builds that run periodically and advise developers of new releases for the packages they’re using, JavaScript testing infrastructure setup, training videos, architecture diagrams, and wiki documentation.

Worked remotely with a team of eight other remote developers to develop, support and enhance a commercial application written in WPF, WCF, and EF 6. - Laid out a unit testing strategy for both the flagship solution and the Android mobile solution, including setting up test projects, building key helper classes for working through and testing difficult code, creating training materials on how to write unit tests for a group of developers who had never written unit tests, and creating continuous integration builds that ran all unit tests. - Worked with Product Manager to set up and own a code review process for all check-ins to TFS 2012. Developed a custom TFS code review work item type to eliminate dependency on higher MSDN subscription level, and a custom TFS add-in that randomly assigns code reviews. When our TFS instance was later migrated to Azure DevOps, converted the TFS add-in to an Azure Function triggered by messages sent from Azure DevOps to an Azure queue.- Planned and implemented a SonarQube instance and added nightly TFS 2012 builds integrated with SonarQube to output code quality metrics and unit test code coverage for our flagship solution and mobile solution.- Planned and executed the migration of source control, work items, builds, and a SonarQube instance from TFS 2012 to Azure DevOps in the cloud, which reduced TFS outages and allowed us to retire the single-point-of-failure development server hosted in a private residence. - Designed and implemented WCF callback service allowing clients to receive notifications when key server events occur.- Introduced the concept of “view model services” into the WPF MVVM client architecture to extract common view model logic or logic heavily involving user interaction into shared classes, thereby improving testability.

Responsible for leading a team of four other developers in supporting our flagship product, a service-oriented WPF application with 1 million lines of code delivered to our customers through the browser (XBAP-deployed), as well as maintaining our legacy applications. First 90 Days:- Worked with Database team to develop T-SQL scripts that cut data change processing time by 90%- Consolidated reusable code into shared libraries and eliminated VSS-specific sharing for pending upgrade to TFS- Developed simple database classes to wrap standard ADO.NET classes, reducing average data access method size by 75%- Created an automated build for our flagship product using Cruise Control.NET which compiled all binaries and ran all unit tests after every source control check-in- Diagrammed current solution(s) architecture and created one year vision for more consolidated solution architectureFirst year:- Established a culture which empowered developers to clean up code messes, write more maintainable code with looser coupling, create reusable WPF controls and resources whenever possible, and utilize the MVVM pattern. As a direct result of this cleanup, from January 2013 to June 2013 we saw a 5% decrease in the total lines of C# code under maintenance, while adding new functionality the entire time.- Worked with HR, the Validation team, and the core management team to change the way we do software validation testing and the resources involved, resulting in fewer bottlenecks at the end of our release process. - Promoted to team lead to provide a single point-of-contact with the core management group. Interface with business development, marketing, and strategic partners on a regular basis.- Mentored graphic designer through coding her first web site. Developed architecture in ASP.NET MVC which provided server-side logic and consistent look-and-feel, but allowed her to maintain the HTML and CSS content.

Worked for the Investments Division of a large insurance company creating web & desktop applications and reusable services to support a SOA initiative. Highlights include:- re-writing a full cash flow management system as a desktop app consuming WCF business logic services and with an OLAP reporting layer on top of the transactional database. Through this application I gained further insight into WPF, WCF, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and MOSS. - creating a reusable WCF service test harness for increased visibility into service uptime, - building a desktop application portal that eliminated the expense and hassle of deploying new desktop applications to a user's machine when they could just as easily be provisioned real-time.- rewriting a data maintenance application where I was able to use code generation to cut my development time in half and reduce the cost of future modifications to a fraction of what they would have been.

Highlights include:- Served as quality assurance for the re-write of the core lead processing engine. Unit tested and debugged several modules and wrote an extensive parallel testing script in NUnit and C#. Resulted in the discovery of several dozen bugs in the new code and several bugs that had been impacting existing processes. As a direct result of testing efforts, the new lead processing system was deployed successfully with no major processing issues. - Assisted in setting up multiple external clients to use a single ASMX web service for importing sales leads. Created a pass-through method for one client who was unable to implement our custom SOAP header and needed to call the web service using a hand-crafted HTTP POST. Worked with the client, their third party vendor, and their third party vendor’s outsourced programming team and even assisted in troubleshooting the team’s client-side ASP code.

As an emergency English teacher, I worked for the central office of one of the top five English schools in Japan. My responsibilities included traveling to any one of dozens of schools in Central Japan, often with less than an hour's notice, to fill in for native English speaking teachers who were ill, on vacation, or no longer employed with AEON. While working at a school, I taught English classes to a range of ages, from children to middle-aged businessmen, and helped to assess the strengths and weaknesses of individual students to provide customized lesson plans for them.
