I’m a freelance writer whose work has appeared in West Hartford Magazine, 435 South Magazine and The Kansas City Star as well as in various newsletters, websites and on an abundance of sticky notes and cocktail napkins. I’ve written features about people, places and organizations in the community; offered pithy commentary on such weighty issues as the virtues of retail catalogs; and penned a humor column about topics as wide-ranging as garage sales and parenting by trial and error. I’m originally from the Baltimore area, but over the past 29 years, I’ve lived in nine homes, in eight cities in seven states--which may go a long way to explaining my obsession with all things "house" related, from roofing materials to real estate market trends. In the summer of 2011, I added "Accidental Yankee" to my list of credits when my husband and I relocated from Johnson County, Kansas, to Connecticut where we traded walk-in closets, a three-car garage and the frequent blare of tornado sirens for rolling clothes racks, a narrow blacktop driveway (uncovered, of course) and a brand new snow shovel. After experiencing the unique relationship Mother Nature has with New England, from gloriously breath taking autumns to devastating Halloween ice storms to garden-variety multi-foot blizzards, in 2013 I jumped at the opportunity to relocate once again to Charlotte, where I've traded snow boots for flip flops (sometimes with socks).
