It became clear during this time that traditional marketing and sales systems were not addressing or realizing the potential revenue for installed base upgrade sales. The challenge for OEMs was daunting – how to monitor the age, function, and contractual status of millions of installed systems; and how to generate actionable proposals for legacy system replacement with limited sales resources for thousands of customers. To complicate matters further, sales/service/finance information for each piece of equipment was often missing. I experienced this personally as Director of Worldwide Installed Base Sales for Sun.Since 2002, SAI has developed a rich portfolio of services to determine the functional status of each system, by account, compare all of the upgrade options based on current price sheets/promotions, and produce millions of proactive upgrade proposals that can be filtered by business objectives. These proposals are delivered to field sales via SalesForce.com, and reports are generated to track progress. Our process leapfrog’s traditional lead generation methods. When properly deployed, use of SAFARI has resulted in millions of dollars of incremental sales for some of the largest computer OEMs in the world. And, in many cases, it has become a core element for their customer retention programs.When 20-25% of an installed base is primed for an upgrade every year, and you consider the potential for sales revenue or market share loss, it makes sense to have a proven tech refresh platform in place to achieve the best results possible.
