As a co-founder and lead counselor/mentor for a non-profit girls’ only summer writing camp designed to enrich and empower young ladies in the Delta through poetry and active feminism, I co-create and develop a curriculum activated by love and strengthened with dedication to enriching our community of women of color leaders. While serving I co-direct enriching activities and programs for the young ladies, facilitate and co-facilitate discussion with young ladies based on Girls Write the World, Inc. curriculum, recruit and engage girls from Greenville Public School District and neighboring towns, mentor 10- 15 young ladies aged 14- 18 years old, deliver instruction on feminism and self-worth through poetry, conduct college tours to enlighten the young ladies on post-high school opportunities, host and organize a poetry slam to showcase the young ladies’ poetry, collaborate with community partners to increase community engagement, foster continual support and leadership during time outside of camp, direct and engage campers in readings and writings throughout the year for regular camper development, develop community outreach and fundraising strategies, implement community outreach and fundraising strategies, mentor girls that transition into leadership roles at camp, utilize expressive writing as a therapeutic tool to empower young ladies, develop and direct junior counselor role, G- Lead (Girls Lead/er), collect data from campers and parents to improve camper experience, and utilize data to inform camper engagement and experience

As Youth Transition Coordinator, I coordinate and facilitate monthly social groups that are collaboratively planned with group members to enhance socialization skills. Additional groups are coordinated and facilitated that focus on soft skill development for youth who desire peer support and independent life skills training. By facilitating these groups, I uniquely inspire and encourage youth to find their love light and let it shine. In conjunction with providing group facilitation, I also provide individual career counseling services to youth and young adults. Additionally, I collaborate with local and state community services and organizations to assist youth with their self-determined, independent living goals. These collaborative relationships support individual living for persons living with disabilities as well as build a platform for potential jobs and educational opportunities for consumers.
