• Directly responsible to the Chief Engineer Officer for efficient and safe operation and maintenance of all machinery on deck in the engine room and pumproom.• Watch keeping duties at sea.• To plan, allocate and supervise the work of all Engineers, electrical Officer and engine room crew.• Preparation of work specifications for engine department repairs and dry-docking and supervision of repairs.• To maintain all engine room fire fighting and Safety equipment in working condition.• Advise Chief Engineer Officer fully of all details of engine room maintenance and operation on a day to day basis.• Maintain cleanliness of all machinery spaces.• To test all controls in engine room and steering gear before departure and arrival in port or anchorage.• To carry out the manoeuvring of the main engine.• Indenting, safe-keeping and inventory control of instruments and tools, stores and spares required for use.• To operate various machinery and equipment as per instructions of the spill co-ordinator under SOPEP.• Compliance with the company’s documented safety and security procedures.• Carry out emergency duties as per emergency response procedures.• Assist Chief Engineer Officer for preparing reports and returns as per company’s procedure and maintenance of records. • To comply with applicable rules of STCW Convention.• To prepare handing over notes along with handing over report while signing off the vessel.• Carry out risk assessment in compliance with SMS.

The safety management responsibilities of Officer In Charge Of an Engineering Watch (O.I.E.C.W) include, but are not limited to, the following:• Familiarize himself with the procedures of safety management system and comply with same.• Watch keeping duties at sea.• Supervision of Engine room machinery while in use. • Engine room watches in port during loading and unloading.• Carry out repairs and maintenance as instructed by 2nd Engineer Officer in particular of the main engine, purifiers, emergency generator, life boat engine, emergency air compressor and all fixed fire extinguishers/fire fighting installations or any other work. • To assist Chief Engineer Officer during bunkering.• To assist 2nd Engineer Officer in his day to day work and in indenting stores/spare parts.• Carry out maintenance for the machineries and equipments as per planned maintenance system as delegated by Chief Engineer Officer e.g. boiler, domestic fridge,equipments such as air compressors, auxiliary generators, air conditioning plant, emergency fire pump, quick closing valves, sea suction valves and all portable fire fighting equipment in engine room. Maintain record of repairs and maintenance carried out and inventory of stores and spares for such machineries and equipments.• Compliance with the company’s documented safety and security procedures.• Carry out emergency duties as per emergency response procedures and as directed by command and control.• To maintain ship keeping duties in port (when required).• To assist spill co-ordinator on the scene under SOPEP... • Comply with applicable rules of STCW Convention.• To prepare handing over notes along with handing over report while signing off the vessel.

AND IMPRESSED UPON ME THE SIZE OF THE EQUIPMENT, THEIR CONSTRUCTION AND THEIR DAY TO DAY FUNCTIONING.

The responsibilities and duties include but not limited to the following, --- • Familiarise himself and comply with environment protection procedures, safe operating procedures for machinery/equipment, shipboard operations, emergency response systems and arrangements on board in accordance with safety management system.• Carry out duties with regard to ship’s operational routine duties as directed by the Management level under the supervision of operation level.• Comply with safe working practices, personnel protective equipment and clothing according to appropriate instructions.• Be able to communicate with other persons on board on elementary safety matters and understand safety information symbols, signs and alarm signals.• Promptly report unsafe machinery, equipment, conditions or operations.• Familiarise himself with and always follow the general safety rules which apply to the particular job and/or ship.• Know what to do if: A person falls overboard, Fire or smoke is detected, or The fire or abandon ship alarm is sounded.• Locate their lifejackets and be able to don it.• Raise the alarm and have basic knowledge of the use of portable fire extinguishers.• Be able to close and open the fire, weathertight and watertight doors fitted on the particular ship other than those for hull openings.• Comply with lawful command.• Comply with applicable rules of the STCW Convention.• Comply with the Company’s documented safety and security procedures.• Carry out emergency duties as per emergency response procedures.
