Key deliverable is to develop short-term and long-term benchmark price assumptions on a quarterly basis for olefins, polymers, solvents, and fertilizers for several key regions. This is done by conducting market research and analysis of each commodity using data from external consultants to develop an internal price forecast. A chemicals assumptions pack is developed providing the rationale for the current forecast and indicating feedstock and supply/demand impacts. This is presented to multiple stakeholders across the business for review and support. Assumptions are further presented to the Group Executive Committee and Group CFO for final approval. In addition, the role is responsible for managing market intelligence subscriptions and the budget for subscriptions, as well as negotiating contract renewals with market consultants.

The primary purpose of this role was to maximize Sasol's profit through performance evaluation of planning effectiveness. This was done by providing intelligence to the production planning input process in order to improve the planning, scheduling, and budgeting process. The following were completed in order to improve planning accuracy:- analysis of deviation of actual production compared to the month plan and budget to quantify losses according to specific categories.- incident analysis was completed on major upsets or failures to identify impact on production and gross margin.- forecast analysis was completed on all final products to ensure budget targets. - shutdown analysis and impacts thereof on gross margin and SBUUsing the above analysis, optimization opportunities were identified to increase production volumes or reduce losses. Scenarios were identified and recommended for month plans to improve predictability of production rates and operating plans. Value chain adherence to plan was tracked and reported to identify room for improvement and conduct bottleneck analysis using historical data. Analysis of final products at SKU level for the Hard Wax value chain was completed, which was used to improve planning and ensure that business requirements were met. Quantitative analysis on SKU adherence was done to categorize and improve areas of non-adherence to ensure that customer requirements were met.The planning models were evaluated and back casting of the LP model was done to improve the accuracy of models.Tracking of STI deliverables on volume targets and adherence to plan and completed waivers where necessary for STI deliverables.

As a process engineer, I was responsible for plant monitoring, optimization, and pricess support t oresolve risks or threats to production. This was done for the gasloop and ammonia value chain, and included plants such as the ATR, Rectisol, Ammonia, NAP, and Prillan. Day to day activities included the following:- Monitor daily plant performance- Identify optimization opportunities- Develop concept proposal packages for optimization opportunities- Execute process improvement projects- OEE plant monitoring- Develop weekly plant performance reports- Monitor overall performance of gas loop plantsI had to perform the engineering manager role on projects and was accountable for delivery of all projects in the area and implementation of MOCs. I was accountable for process-related PSM elements such as PSI, PHA, and MOCs. Further to the above technical development, leadership was a key component of this role. I was accountable for coaching new EITs (Engineers-in-training), and monitoring project progress of unit engineers and the gas loop engineer. I provided guidance on project direction and drove innovative thinking. I assisted and prepared EITs for panel reviews to ensure their GDP requirements were met. I conducted peer reviews of process packages and proposals of other engineers.

This was my first role as I started as a unit engineer role for A2100 Air Separation Unit in Sasolburg. The main purpose of this role was to complete daily plant monitoring to ensure operation within agreed parameters. Plant performance reports were compiled which aided identification of process improvement opportunities. In addition, I had to identify risks and threats to production. The role required independent data accumulation and processing, MOC registration, and execution of plant modifications. Sizing checks of new and existing equipment were completed to determine whether efficient equipment was installed. Updates to the plant operating envelope were made to ensure current plant operation and capability is defined clearly and reflective of latest operating parameters. As custodian of the plant air model, I had to interface with clients by investigating supply issues and non-conformance to specifications.
