Field EngineerMass. Electric Construction Co. Jun 2016 - Dec 2016Part of the electrical team on the Rutherford Solar Farm, a 500 acre, 74 MW solar farm that was acquired by Southern Companies. Responsible for the Medium Voltage AC and DC feeder cable installation on the project, from cradle to grave.Performed quantity takeoffs to accurately identify and procure needed materials, resulting in cost savings due to quantity underrun compared to initial estimate. Planned and organized cable reel sizing to match installation lengths and maintained a reel footage tracking system to minimize waste. This system was used to organize dozens of reels containing different lengths of cable. Generated work plans and quantity tracking methodology for multiple crews in the field with collaboration with superintendents. Provided quality checklists to verify proper installation and on-the-go documentation to reduce time spent on close-out.Provided as-built documentation after work completion in accordance with Owner requirements. Location of cable buried in ground was documented and red-lined onto design drawings for future reference. At the end of the project, over 400,000 linear feet of cable were installed, either in conduit or direct buried. This also includes the procurement, training, and coordination for Medium Voltage junction boxes and terminations using specialized 3M T-type assemblies. As lead engineer of the project team, ensured compliance with guidelines and practices, and provided guidance to other engineers. Generated supporting documentation and calculations/analysis for Change Orders as necessary for the project.

This $177M design-build project involved the overhaul of structural, track, electrical, train control, communications, and power delivery systems from Dupont to Silver Spring Station. My responsibilities on this project included the following:Design Management. As a large portion of the project followed a design-build model of procurement, a substantial effort was necessary to produced approved design for each discipline and area. Priorities had to be determined to match construction schedule. As Design Engineer I coordinated between the design/engineering firms, the Owner, and field personnel to ensure timely production of Issued for Construction designs. In total, 17 design packages were taken to completion in time for construction. Cost and Budget Management as Field Engineer for Train Control and SCADA systems. I developed methods of quantity tracking in the field and a verifiable claiming scheme to be used for cost tracking against a given budget. Generated cost projections for review with management on a regular basis. This quantity tracking was also used as backup for claims for payment from the Owner. Field Management. Responsible for generating work plans in collaboration with a Superintendent for use out in the field. I was also in charge of field verification and documentation of the work and final quality reviews with Representatives of the Owner. Client Relations and Scheduling. Planned track access and rail shutdowns with Owner Scheduler to ensure worker safety and productivity while working on active rail. Subcontract Management including Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, including documentation for commercially useful function verification. As Project Environmental Coordinator, presented training for craft and staff on local and federal environmental laws. Monitored job sites for compliance, provided remedies as necessary. -
