Lead Project Engineer
I was a project engineer who worked closely with sales and the manufacturing floor. I would receive a project from sales where I would design the product to the customer specifications stated on the sales order. I would make a detail drawing for an approval sent to the costumer. After the customer signed off on the approval, I would create the fabrication drawings and release them to the shop. I would work closely with the shop to make sure the product was manufactured correctly and there were no errors in the design. In between projects, I started to migrate the engineering data from 2D AutoCAD to 3D SolidWorks. I created SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings. With the new documentation, I worked with the manufacturing supervisor to create a binder of standards that would be used for reference and new employee training. I also looked at the manufacturing processes and redesigned the layout of the shop floor to increase productivity.
Design Engineer
I worked in the New Product Development group. I started with a "napkin sketch" concept and expanded the design, creating the components in SolidWorks. My main role was doing the design and layout work in SolidWorks. I worked with a team of engineers and industrial designers on the projects. At certain intervals in the project, I would order the components and build a complete prototype. The prototype was to be tested based on the industry standards. There were many iterations and through designing I was able to reduce the part count and vastly reduce the manufacturing time.
Engineer
The day-to-day workload was based on the project at hand. I would primarily create and modify SolidWorks files. If required I would create custom parts based on a customer request. I would create all the parts, sub-assemblies, weldments, assemblies, and drawings for the project. Some projects required that I modify the BOM in the system and update the SolidWorks files accordingly. I preformed research to make sure the parts were compliant with specifications in the quotes.
Heat Transfer Engineer
The focus of my employment was to analyze the effect of heat transfer on the components of a jet engine. The finite element software package I utilized was MSC Patran with the specific code being P/Thermal. The analysis was applied to both 2D and 3D models, with the majority being 3D. The component that was requiring the analysis was already designed and modeled, and I would receive a section of the model. I would apply mesh constraints, contact conditions, and boundary conditions to perform the analysis. After the analysis was completed, I would present the results to Principle Engineers and the customer.
