I am a law enforcement professional with 27 years of service with the Durham Police Department. I am looking forward to transitioning to the second phase of my career. I have extensive experience in managing the day to day operations of a mid-level law enforcement agency with over seven hundred employees and over ten years of executive level leadership in the agency.As Deputy Chief, I lead, motivate and manage the Field Operations Bureau which incorporates the Uniform Patrol Division and the Community Resource Division.Primary responsibilities include the daily operations of the Bureau with the purpose of reducing crime and improving the quality of life for residents and businesses in the City of Durham, North Carolina. This requires ongoing data analysis and the allocation of personnel resources based on recent activity and incidents. Notable Accomplishments as Deputy Chief include: • Reduced overtime costs by 25% and maintained an 80% staffing level during peak service time by implementing a schedule change for two separate support units. This allowed the supplemental overtime shifts to be reduced in number and shifted to peak service times.• Modified the response to non-emergency requests for service and initiated a telephone response unit to reduce personnel’s exposure to Covid-19 virus.• Oversaw the research and selection of a new uniform patrol schedule and developed the plan to execute the implementation of the new schedule for the uniform patrol division. New schedule initiative and plan have been placed on hold due to budgetary restraints.• Reduced violent crime rate and improved case clearances by developing a task force and selecting the personnel to focus on armed robberies. Centralized personnel and prioritized the analysis of the evidence collected which reduced the time needed to link incidents and identify the perpetrators.
