Kevin Christophersen, Associate Professor, Communication Department (M.A. Columbia College Chicago, 2004) is a leader in advertising, marketing and LGBTQ diversity.He is contributor for the Huffington Post (Building Your Emotional Muscle, 2017) and (1in 3 Gay Men Are Using Steroids, 2017). He has co-published work in various peer reviewed journals, and has been invited and traveled internationally to address various topics including male body image in advertising and social media, service learning, and creating safe classrooms for LGBTQ students. Outside of academia, Kevin consults with various clients in all areas of communication including: the BevLedge, ShelTer, Transformations Plastic Surgery, among others. In 2018, Kevin started a partnership with 1871, one of the largest tech incubators in the country. In a co-taught course, Agency, students are partnered with tech-start-ups and produce work in real time, across multiple platforms. Kevin has a passion for fostering an innovative teaching and learning environment and has a vision for students that looks far beyond their education.For years, he served as the Associate Chair for the Marketing Communication Department, where he managed adjunct faculty, hired new faculty, supervised the teaching evaluation process, and developed the semester schedule that included over 70 course sections. Kevin spearheaded operational efficiencies for the department with an enrollment of approximately 500+ advertising, marketing and public relations undergraduate students. Prior to joining Columbia, he worked in Media Activation at Leo Burnett and held Account Management positions at various agencies. Past clients included: Abbott Labs, Allstate, Boise Cascade, Keebler, Kellogg, McDonald’s, Oldsmobile, Philip Morris, & Procter and Gamble among others.
