The DBT Center Training Institute is a non-profit recently formed to provide comprehensive training in evidence-based mental health treatments, reduce the shortage of mental health professionals in Texas and address the lack of quality of training opportunities for graduate students in mental health fields.The Mission of the Training Institute is to prepare masters and doctoral students, pre-doctoral interns, and post-doctoral fellows to function as professional mental healthcare providers capable of delivering ethical, comprehensive, and evidence-based treatment to high-risk populations. Also, I provide comprehensive governance and executive compensation advice to the Nominating & Corporate Governance and Management Development & Compensation Committees. As well, I oversee HR, Legal, Government Affairs, and Environmental Health & Safety teams, totaling 10 members and a +$30M budget. As one of the top 3 officers in the company, I also served as Chief Legal, Compliance, and Human Resources Officer, and was appointed Secretary to the Board, and the Nominating & Corporate Governance and Management Development & Compensation Committees. Most notably, I drove the closure of the acquisition of Quanex Corporation and its steel business by Gerdau and obtained SEC approval for the spin-off of Quanex Building Products. I also co-led the merger & acquisition investigatory and diligence activities that led to 5 acquisitions and 3 divestitures.

As a member of the senior leadership team, I took on multiple guidance advisory roles concurrently, including serving as Secretary for American Standard Companies Inc. (our parent company), Chief Counsel for Trane’s Global Distribution operations and Regional Counsel for Trane’s Latin America region.While working to reduce risk, I improved our legal services model, thus increasing consistency, cost-effectiveness, and communication. Additional contributions include leading outside counsel in a national class-action lawsuit, cutting our potential exposure from $70M to $3.5M.

In 1995, I joined this $300M privately-held asphalt roofing manufacturer as their first in-house counsel. Concurrently, I served as Director of Risk Management and negotiated substantial financial improvements to the company’s risk programs involving 14 factories.My impact included reducing the company’s annual outside legal counsel costs by 40%. I also lobbied against a proposed bill in Congress, which prevented the closure of one of our plants.
