The scheme was part of a number of initiatives launched by the UK Government as part of the COVID response programme to support businesses and the UK Public through an unprecedented global pandemic.The scheme delivered a discount on meals purchased and consumed within registered outlets and was administered via retrospective payments directly into the bank accounts of large and small businesses. To enable this, a full suite of customer facing tools were developed within record time - registration, claims and a public portal to search for participating outlets. A first for HMRC!
