• Research Focus: Generating human primary nociceptive (pain sensing) neurons using directed differentiation, and understanding transcription factor codes in directed differentiation of specific neuronal subtypes
• Developed a novel transgenic technique to generate functional somatosensory neurons (neurons that sense pain, temperature, itch, touch, and muscle position) from multiple tissue sources including mouse and human.
• Implementing single cell RNAseq to validate discrete neuronal subtypes in both distinct neuronal populations and in induced neuronal populations.
• Genetically engineering induced somatosensory neurons using CRISPR/Cas9 to generate an assay for high throughput pharmacological screening.
