Site Supervisor
In October 2014, I started working for Mechanical Project Management as a site supervisor based permanently at Perth International Airport. The $195million project consisted of the new construction of Perth Airport Terminal 1 Domestic Pier and expansion of the existing International Departures Terminal. MPM had a project manager supported by four site supervisors permanently based on site. My role as site supervisor was to predominantly to assist the project manager in the day to day duties of running the project whilst the other three supervisors walked the site and attended to on-site issues. My main roles were co-ordinating the sub-contractors, rectifying defects, preparing site documentation for area handovers, preparing health and safety information, attending daily progress meeting and I was also a part of the site health and safety committee. After three months employment, I was unable to re-new my working visa and returned to the UK.
Senior Contract Administrator
At the conclusion of my apprenticeship in 2013, I moved to Perth, Australia and began working for Penguin International. At Penguin International, I was tasked to be the Contract Administrator on the company’s largest contract ECU Joondalup Ngoolark (Building 34). For Penguin International, the project had a value in excess of $6million and consisted of five packages; 2800M² curtain wall facade, 3400M² aluminium perforated sun-shading screens, a frameless glass atrium, internal windows/doors and external glass balustrade. The design element of the packages was sub-contracted and my role as contractor administrator was procurement and co-ordination as well as attending site progress meetings. This involved daily interaction with the supply chain in China to arrange periodic shipments as to not cause delays on site. The $72million new build development eventually won best Commercial Construction ($10-$50 million) at the WA chapter of the Australian Institute of Building's Professional Excellence in Building Awards. During my time at Penguin International I implemented several documents and procedures to improve the company’s QA system and was promoted to Senior Contract Administrator after three months employment.Working in close contact with the client (Builder), architect and engineers to manage all types of construction works to specification. Key responsibilities included contractual disputes and document control. Co-ordinate with other services contractors to ensure the project is delivered to specification, on time and on budget.Key roles included:• Assess Project works to be undertaken.• Deal with all contractual business.• Co-ordination with contractors.• Produce H&S documentation including Risk Assessments and Method Statements.• Managing Sub-Contractors on site.• Provide Sub-Contractors with Scope of works and Specifications.• Provide full Project Management facilities.• Producing monthly valuations that give accurate account of progress on site.
