The first Galway Comedy Festival was held over the Easter weekend in 2006. In 2009 we moved to our new place in the festival calendar, the October Bank Holiday Weekend. The festival operates in a dozen venues in Galway for the week, plus we take over the city’s main plaza, Eyre Square and erect our comedy village, with venues, food outlets, beer stalls and general tomfoolery. We showcase improv and sketches, solo shows, mixed bill shows and new act showcases throughout the city.Some of the stars who have performed over the last few years include: Bill Bailey, John Bishop, Dylan Moran, Jim Jefferies, Tommy Tiernan, Sean Lock, Dara O’Briain, Kevin Bridges, Stewart Lee, Ross Noble, Ardal O’Hanlon, Gina Yashere, Reginald D Hunter, Shappi Khorsandi, Milton Jones, Rich Hall, Joel Dommett, Rhys Darby, Deirdre O’Kane, Jon Richardson, Foil Arms Hog, Aisling Bea and literally hundreds more.

Róisín Dubh is undoubtedly one of the best music and comedy venues in the country, bringing established talent to the city, while also providing a stage for emerging artists. With a great atmosphere, wonderful staff, and a real commitment and passion to music and comedy, it's one of the best places to see the best national and international acts around.Róisín Dubh has long been the home of comedy in Galway. Many great acts including Stewart Lee, Phill Jupitus & Rich Hall, list it as being one of their top 10 venues in the world.Roisin Dubh is also the driving force behind the Galway Comedy Festival.

Kevin & Simon opened the GPO nightclub in Galway in 1994, and not only was it the go-to place for students through those years, it was a leader in cutting edge dance music drawing in big name acts and underground heroes it was home for local pioneers such as 091, 110th Street and The Disconauts. International DJ's such as Roger Sanchez, Darren Emerson and Fatboy Slim also played at the GPO. Plus live gigs from Therapy?, Michael Franti & Spearhead and Freakpower.
