When I moved to the Engagement Office in Yale-NUS, I inherited two large portfolios. Under Strategic Events, I was to help organise and execute the public-facing events on campus, including flagship events like the President's Speaker Series and the annual Public Lecture on Global Affairs. Through the COVID-19 pandemic, I learned to organise Zoom Webinars and helped my team pivot quickly to running events virtually, running 20+ virtual sessions with attendance ranging from 250 to 500+, as well as organising two virtual graduation ceremonies in 2020 and 2021.My other responsibility was in Alumni Affairs. While the pandemic precluded any opportunity for in-person events, my team and I advised on strategic planning for alumni programming structure and direction, including developing a database system for the collection and consolidation of alumni data. My other achievement was conceptualising the re-design for an updated alumni newsletter, titled Wingspan, which now has over 50% engagement rate of our 1,000+ alumni; and for which I currently perform researching, writing, editing, and layout design. As Project Officer in the Public Affairs Department at Yale-NUS College, my main role was to organise and execute the College's institutional events, which included the Graduation Ceremony as well as the First Year Assembly, an ceremonial event where first-year students are welcomed into the College. I successfully executed two graduation ceremonies in 2018 and 2019, each attended by more than 1000 staff, faculty, graduates, and their invited guests. My proudest moments were when I found areas where I could optimise the process flow, by automating processes to minimise human error or reduce workload.My secondary responsiblities included supporting the Public Affairs team with their media responsibilities. Having no prior training in corporate comms, I learned a great deal about the industry, picking up skills in media management, corporate brand identity, and crisis comms. Besides monitoring media channels daily and analysing quarterly media sentiment data, I also wrote five press releases (and contributed to three others), and researched and wrote a series of bimonthly Latest@Yale-NUS articles for the College's website about the College's alumni. In the first few years of the college, the administration hired "Dean's Fellows": fresh university graduates to act as experienced counsellors and advisors for new students in their first year of college. With the graduation of the first class, the school was in a position to start having an in-house student mentoring position, which was dubbed the Residental College Advisor (RCA). With the completion of Yale-NUS College's campus in 2015, the College held its official Inauguration Ceremony on 12 October 2015. At the same time, the College decided to hold the Inaugural Symposium on International Liberal Education on 11 October 2015. In the months leading up to these prestigious events, I was tasked with collating print collaterals, such as VIP profiles and individual schedules, for the 30 VIPs in attendance. In the months leading up to these prestigious events, I was tasked with collating print collaterals, such as VIP profiles and individual schedules, for the 30 VIPs in attendance. I was also in charge of coordinating 10 student volunteers in the hosting of international VIPs attending the event, acting as student guides and liaisons for the foreign dignitaries as they toured notable Singapore landmarks. In my position with the Admissions department, I worked with a team of 7 other student associates. In the day-to-day operations, I answered admissions-related emails from prospective applicants, provided tours of the temporary campus to visiting prospective students and members of the public. I also acted as a student ambassador during multiple university fairs and visits to local… Show more In the year before Yale-NUS College started its first class, I decided to intern with the institution. In my position with the Admissions department, I worked with a team of 7 other student associates. In the day-to-day operations, I answered admissions-related emails from prospective applicants, provided tours of the temporary campus to visiting prospective students and members of the public. I also acted as a student ambassador during multiple university fairs and visits to local Junior Colleges, communicating to prospective students relevant information about the College and fielding their queries. I also worked with the Admissions team to organise logistics, administration, and execution of three Experience Yale-NUS Weekends (EYWs), which invited a total of more than 400 admitted students and their families from around the world to visit the College and gain a first-hand experience of what it would be like living and studying on campus.In my position with the Public Affairs department, I monitored and compiled public media perception of the new College daily. I worked on one major event, the 2013 NUS Open Day, and liaised with multiple vendors for materials and merchandise.I am particularly grateful for this experience as it allowed me to understand the back-end processes behind the day-to-day running of the College, and I became much more understanding whenever difficulties arose or mistakes happened - as is commonplace in such a start-up environment - when I transitioned into a full-time student.
