Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter railroad systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Kane, McHenry, Lake, and Will counties in Northeastern Illinois. Metra provides commuter service to and from downtown Chicago with 242 stations and 11 service lines totaling nearly 500 route miles encompassing a service area of more than 3700 square miles.As Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Kevin McCann provides executive leadership, direction, and support to ensure Metra achieves its mission, vision, and strategic goals. Mr. McCann oversees all aspects of Operations including Metra’s Safety & Regulatory Compliance Departments, Engineering, Mechanical, and Transportation Departments, Transit Asset Management (TAM/EAM), and Workforce Training, Development, and Certification Department.Kevin McCann started his career at Metra in 1996 working in the Mechanical Department as a Carman. Over the years, he was promoted to Senior Rail Inspector, Project Manager for Metra’s railcar procurement program, Superintendent of Metra’s rollingstock overhaul program, Director of Metra's Rock Island District Mechanical Division, Senior Director of Mechanical Operations and Senior Director of Mechanical Capital Projects. Mr. McCann served as Chief Mechanical Officer from January 2018 through May of 2021 before being appointed to Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer in 2021.Mr. McCann earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Maintenance Management from Lewis University, class of 1990.
