This is an almost £60M contract for supply and installation of Kalzip Standing Seam roofing and gutters on the project. My role was to oversee the Jeddah Design Team which consists of a multinational team of 4 Designers and Document Controller, to manage their input, design coordination, detail all aspect of the project and to interface with the Construction Team - both Lakesmere & main contractor SBG. The contract was split into a number of "zones" with the Main Terminal, Passenger Boarding Bridges, Hub, Processor, Air Traffic Control Tower Building, Fire Rescue Building, Railway Station, Baggage Handling, with these areas all running concurrently. There were many aspects to the role including all design meetings with interfacing contractors, suppliers, Construction Management, Main Contractor and any other interfacing contractor. Site visits and meetings to overcome any issues or problems, dealing with flow of information to correct parties, design calculation information, MTS / DCS submissions and all elements relating to the design and installation of the materials on site. There was a great deal of interfacing with the site installation team and we were heavily relied upon to overcome design to installation issues, and ensure that the issues raised were fully completed and followed up and documented.I had the remit to build a brand new design team in KSA and interviewed and selected candidates with the knowledge that they will all need full training in all aspects of roofing & cladding design. The training of the Designers was also my responsibility and this is on an ongoing basis for all materials required. We also undertook design on Jeddah Hangars for TAL JV. This was a single ply roof build-up on structural decking and was spread over 11 Hangars and 2 small supply buildings. The value of this contract was $20M. Show less

I was employed as Design Engineer to cover the design requirements of the Glasgow Office. Our main roles were to support the contracts from this office, but also had responsibility to aupport other regional offices when required. The projects were maily Kalzip Standing Seam, Kingspan composite panels, High Pressure laminates, and various associated ancillaries and accessories for the full building envelope design.

The company offered design and supply services to companies that would install the is systems having won the contract using costing information supplied by BM to help win the project. There was always a great deal of interface with the client to confirm and resolve any issues arising and to allow the manufacture, supply and installation of the panels on individual projects. I was taken on directly from School as an Apprentice Draughtsman, and served a full 4 year Apprenticeship while attending day release college. Butler Buildings manufactured their own steel frame systems in the factiry in Kirkcaldy, along with all supporting framing purlins and cladding rails and associated items. It was my responsibility to detail the steelwork layouts to allow the frames to be erected on site and also to do manufacturing drawings to allow the parts to be manufactured. It was my responsibility to detail the steelwork layouts to allow the frames to be erected on site and also to do manufacturing drawings to allow the parts to be manufactured. We had to have an in depth knowledge of steel codes, and welding requirements and symbols. The manufacturing drawings were very detailed with many varying parts of information to be conveyed clearly to the factory. Some projects were steel frame and sheeting rails only, but Butler also provided their own builyt-up cladding systems and also standing seam roof cladding, so we also had to detail, schedule and order all materials for the relevant supply on the individual contracts. As i progressed, i became senior Draughtsman and i was in charge of a section within the office where we dealt with an individual project.
