Growing up in Bolivia, I witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of water scarcityon communities. Many of them lack access to safe, clean drinking water - a basichuman necessity. Seeing this profound inequity ignited a deep passion within me tosolve this critical issue by awakening my skills in engineering and innovation.My journey began as a member of the award-winning iGEM Bolivia team, where apartfrom developing "Asermaphore", a biosensor that uses genetically modified bacteriato detect arsenic contamination in water, my team made up of colleagues from theScientific Society of the Faculty of Engineering belonging to USFX University, built aprototype called the fast arsenic data sample reader (FADSR), which is amechatronic device capable of measuring color produced by an engineered bacteriathat acts as a biosensor to detect arsenic. The device holds 18 spaces to analyzedifferent samples in an accurate and reproducible way. This device also retains theengineered bacteria (biosensor) within and prevents it from escaping to the externalenvironment. The information obtained can be observed by the operator in real timeas well as by being transmitted wirelessly, which makes it very accessible forextraction of the results obtained.With such experience and with the help of my undergraduate tutor; I invented acompact, semi-automatic prototype to efficiently treat polluted water from surfacerivers and convert it into safe drinking water. This portable solar-powered deviceaims to provide an accessible, reliable drinking water solution for underservedcommunities worldwide. Seeing the prototype gain approval from the local water andsanitation authority validated its potential impact.My commitment to excellence has been constant throughout my academic journey.In high school, I was recognized as the top student, receiving a diploma of excellencesigned by former U.S. President Barack Obama. This dedication continued at SanFrancisco Xavier de Chuquisaca University, where I consistently demonstratedoutstanding performance.
