The AI Platform team is transforming the way Machine Learning is done at the Zillow Group. We are radically lowering the barriers to experiment, iterate and deploy models into the Zillow Group ecosystem.

I am the director of an AI-focused applied science and engineering team at Zillow responsible for home valuation.

My team works on Natural Language Experiences for the Office suite. We use a mixture of technologies to deliver these language experiences in over 90 languages. Ranging from traditional NLP techniques that power the speller and grammar checkers in the Office suite, to new experiences based upon RNNs/CNNs. These experiences are used by several hundred million users across all versions of the Office suite. Additionally, my team also builds the tools and infrastructure needed to linguistically scale all of the group’s solutions. Responsibilities include project leadership, technical platform strategy, recruiting/staffing, and partner team engagement.

Manage the development team of the Natural Language Group in the Microsoft Office Division, for Office 2010 and current Office shipping cycle.I manage a team of software leads, engineers and contractors in developing a number of projects involving machine learning, natural language processing, data mining, and artificial intelligence techniques. My team also builds the tools and infrastructure needed to linguistically scale all of the group’s solutions. Responsibilities include project leadership, technical platform strategy, recruiting/staffing, and partner team engagement.

Lead the integration and development of the SharePoint Search Did You Mean Speller implementation. Oversaw the integration and development of word breakers for 35 languages for search in Windows and Office. Worked with the search team to tune search results relevance. Guided the development of the core proofing components, such as the speller runtime used in the Office suite as well as by teams like Hotmail and other services.

Developed core runtimes used as basis for word breakers in Windows and Office. Designed new COM APIs for exposing complex textual information extraction results in a high performance manner suitable for use in query and indexing pipelines. Developed German word breaker runtime and drove performance analysis and server stability work.
