As a trainee in Unit B2 ("Institutional Affairs") of the Secretariat-General, my tasks were very diverse and included- monitoring the correct implementation of the horizontal rules on Commission expert groups, helping with the identification and solution of persisting problems, analysing extensive information on expert groups' meetings for an Ombudsman inquiry, contributing to briefings to the Cabinets and drafting minutes;- carrying out detailed research and analytical work concerning EU decentralised agencies, establishing a comprehensive data chart on the topic, drafting internal notes concerning agencies' governance, contributing to the development of a cross-cutting methodology for EU decentralised agencies's operating needs;- preparing and attending meetings at different levels, both internally (with the different Commission services) and inter-institutionally (with the European Ombudsman, the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and the General Affairs Working Group of the Council).

I was an intern in unit EB1, tasked with matters related to the EU's economic and financial policy, the Europe 2020 strategy and the coordination of the Federal Government's European policy with the different "Bundesländer". Most notably, I contributed to internal policy papers on potential reform perspectives of the Multiannual Financial Framework. In this context, I also worked on the definition of "European added value". Furthermore, I prepared and attended various sessions of the relevant "Bundesrat" committee, as well as meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
