My accountancy career started when I was still in school - a Saturday job at a local Travel Agency handling their client ledgers. The software was poor. I ended up writing a new suite which handled all the accounting requirements of the business. It was developed for other Travel Agents. I started working for a practice in 1985 qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1990. I am now a partner in the largest Chartered Accountants in North Wales. I have a diverse portfolio of clients, mainly private clients and small businesses. Business range from small part-time trades, through partnerships to larger companies. The range of trades is extensive: tradesmen, beauty salons, consultants, children’s nurseries, building contractors, private investigators. My largest sector is agriculture of which the majority are family farming partnerships. My expertise lies in the 3Ts: taxation, technology and tax credits.Over the years I have overseen the successful integration of Self Assessment, Electronic Lodgement Services, Filing By Internet, Real Time Information, Online VAT and Online Corporation Tax. I do not embrace technology for technology’s sake, only where it can lead to improvements and efficiencies.I have a longstanding working relationship with HMRC and have been an active member of Working Together since 1996: though I consider myself a HMRC antagonist and certainly not a ‘customer’.Outside of work I enjoy walking and music but most of my time is spent with my three children and my wonderful wife.
