About Kevin Robb

Robotics hobbyist/enthusiast -> student -> engineer! My main areas of expertise are mobile robot localization & autonomous behavior, including path planning & navigation. In my projects over the years, I've implemented concepts such as extended & unscented Kalman filters, particle filters, and genetic algorithms from the ground-up for various physical robotic systems. My main career interest is working to expand perception & autonomy for robotic platforms. Nothing is more fun & fulfilling than making robots do cool things!

    Built a robot with a team of ~6 people that we entered into the 2021 Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition hosted by Oakland University. We won 1st place in the Auto-Nav competition, Rookie of the Year, and 2nd place for the overall "Grand Award". This competition involved building a 2'x3' self-driving car that was able to autonomously navigate a course consisting of lanes, potholes, and a number of traffic obstacles with no collisions. I did the majority of the mechanical design and physical construction of the robot. I created an Extended Kalman Filter to handle the localization and sensor fusion of the robot online as it completed the course.

    Worked on path planning and navigation nodes using robot operating system (ROS) and Python. Implemented pure pursuit using localization and trajectory generation data. Robot was meant to compete in the National Robotics Challenge, Autonomous Vehicle Competition, but it was cancelled due to covid-19.
