Building successful software requires many things - thoughtful product design, intuitive interface, scalable architecture, maintainable code, reliable infrastructure, leadership, and teamwork. I have been fortunate over my career to be deeply involved in each of these areas. As Chief Architect and Engineer for InfoSnap, I worked with a fantastic team to build the leading online registration and enrollment management SaaS platform for K-12 school districts. Our success led to our acquisition by PowerSchool Group, LLC in 2015. I am extremely proud of this achievement. After InfoSnap's acquisition by PowerSchool, I continued my role as Chief Architect for Registration, eventually joining the Platform team, where I helped design, architect, and build a new microservice-based platform. This platform has allowed PowerSchool to launch and scale a wildly successful product, Unified Classroom, that brings together multiple different products and services.Currently, I am leading the architecture and engineering effort for US Air Force's Digital University, an online learning platform for airmen. This platform supports over 25,000 airmen. The solution is built on a modern JavaScript stack and uses several Google Cloud services, including App Engine, Cloud Functions, Firestore, and PubSub.Prior to this, I was responsible for the architecture, design, and development for several full-stack solutions for a successful print-on-demand e-commerce company. One example was a highly scalable, flexible, serverless-based image processing service that replaced a server-based approach which was a bottleneck for production. The new service has significantly increased production capacity and also resulted in a more maintainable system. The solution included AWS S3, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and Node.I feel equally at home deep in code, designing architectural approaches and strategies, leading and mentoring other software engineers, and helping to design and plan business and product direction. My recent technical work has been focused on full-stack JavaScript solutions, including Node, React, GraphQL, and NoSQL databases including DynamoDB and MongoDB. I have extensive experience with many AWS cloud products including Lambda, S3, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Cloudfront, Cloudwatch, SQS, SNS, Route53, and others. I believe in “infrastructure as code” and have built solutions using Terraform to manage infrastructure.
