When entering my freshman year of high school, I decided to lose weight. At the time, I knew it was going to be difficult – I had already watched videos on the topic, exposed myself to various blog posts, and spent some time communicating with those who had endured similar experiences. But despite the physical, mental, and even emotional hardships, I continued on with the self-made program – I am that type of person. My senses of contentedness and happiness do not derive from the outcome of an activity. They instead stem from the ability to successfully complete the “dirty work” behind the scenes, the work that essentially makes the engine function. And it is exactly because of this that I decided to major in economics – not only is the study itself academically demanding, but it is relatively unique in that it allows its scholars to understand the workings of the engine that is our financial society. I am currently a first-year master's student at New York University who could be described as someone who is constantly ready and willing to put forth his best effort while learning the ins and outs of new processes, organizations, and topics. I hold a semester-long experience in conducting strategic research and collaborating with foreign professionals and am searching for and positioned to contribute strong critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills to an internship opportunity. Specifically, I am looking for an opportunity that could broaden my practical and theoretical understandings of economics.I am sure that my competencies in Microsoft Office and mathematics can be coupled to effectively create and develop projects – along with Robert J. Walshe, I am a co-author of Ramapo College’s 2020 Scholars’ Day presentation, “The Economic Impact of Ramapo College on Surrounding Communities.” When I’m not actively studying or conducting research, I love to spend time improving my Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish written and verbal proficiencies. I also enjoy reading The Economist and The New York Times while staying on top of any news in relation to my specific fields of interest such as finance, monetary economics, labor economics, and econometrics.
