I decided to start a small gardening company after my own garden had reached its prime and boundaries. I did this part-time for seven years and now, I have the pleasure of doing it full time. This is my passion and this work allows me to "better the world around me one garden at a time." I specialize in urban landscaping, spatial design, hardscaping and container gardening as well as seasonal plantings. I also install seasonal lighting and festive garden settings. Within the store planning and merchandising division, I manage all visual aspects of eleven museum retail locations in five different Smithsonian museums as well as an off-site museum retail store. This includes the purchase of props and fixtures and procuring signage and marketing. I create visually attractive displays and appealing merchandise presentations that are in keeping with the mission of the Smithsonian Institution. My work and expertise also extends to the other six Smithsonian museum locations. I develop detailed photographic plan-o-grams for floor moves and participate in seasonal style-outs. I interact with all levels of management and, as a team member, I work in the re-installation / final built out and set-up of remodeled gift stores and the opening of new retail locations. I communicate merchandising standards to each store staff, and I work closely with vendors and service providers with respect to my yearly budget. As a senior visual designer I was responsible for all visual merchandising and product placement in the Hecht's Home Goods and Furniture Store. As a high volume store located in Bethesda, Maryland. which is one of the most affluent and highly educated communities in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and the U.S.it required the highest attention to detail, and quality of visual presentation. I worked closely with all levels of management as well as the store planning and buying departments. I created visually attractive seasonal presentations and highlighted in store promotions and departments. I procured or designed and custom built props and at times worked as part of a team of visual experts in setting up new and/or newly remodeled stores and regional prototypes. Directed seasonal visual temps in all aspect of visual merchandising during their terms of employment. After taking on the responsibility of merchandising the furniture departments, this store ranked number one in sales for two years in a row. Was invited back as to work on some special projects as a consultant after taking another position with another company

After only three month of working as a sales consultant & designer in a custom framing store, I was promoted to manager and relocated to the Washington, DC metro area to build out and manage a new location within the surrounds of The Great Indoors home store. I created a client list of over 1G new customers and in three months time of being being opened, generated over $250K in gross sales of custom framing for artwork, photography, collectibles and awards/certificates. My sales and design skills were applied in walk-in customer creative consultations and up-selling of mounting, matting and framing services. This allowed the customer to see their artwork et al in a variety of finishes which they had not considered as options ultimately leading to return customers and increased sales.I managed a staff of 4-5 employees and conducted interviews and employee evaluations. I procured visiting artist' to present their work in the gallery space and coordinated openings and artist' receptions. I also instructed artistic classes introducing custom framing materials in a variety of other modes and uses.

As part of the sales and visual staff at the Pottery Barn, I had the pleasure of assisting our patrons in updating and creating beautifully comfortable living spaces. I merchandised all products as they arrived on location which included creating wall-free vignettes of living spaces, attractive storefront widow displays and strong visual statements in different departments. Spatial design and perspective are key as well as directional sight lines, lighting and shopper friendly passages. While working on the sales floor to enhance the retail environment, I would provide exceptional customer service, product knowledge and well as design consultations which ultimately turned into sales increases and repeat customers.

For over 16 years I provided uniquely creative and high quality design and artistic services. I specialized in branding for start-up companies or for those reinventing themselves along with the creation of identity marks, publications, marketing and etc. Additionally, I brokered the production and printing of these materials as well. I also designed a variety packaging for a number of gourmet food companies. My direct services included client consultations, sales, follow-up /delivery, Illustrations, (graphite, ink and/or watercolor) design and art direction, photo direction, food and set styling. I also created a sizable number of commissioned fine art pieces. These were finished by my custom framing them.
