As RDG’s lead web developer, I had a hand in every one of our development projects - totaling close to 60 from-scratch websites over five years. The web development projects were collaborative efforts in which our designers, coordinators, copywriter, client, and I worked together every step of the way to ensure we met the needs of the client as well as our high standards for aesthetics and functionality.Since we were a relatively small company, I contributed to our web projects in many ways beyond being just the developer. These additional roles included project procurement, project manager, project coordinator, information architect, and systems architect. It was common for us to have multiple concurrent web projects at various stages of completion, so I typically wore multiple hats throughout the day.I was empowered to improve our procedures as they relate to web. These special projects included: a system for producing accurate cost estimates for proposals and budgeting; and a revamped process for web development projects, including a new kickoff meeting format and incorporating a variation of "atomic design" into the design process.We used Squarespace, Shopify, and ExpressionEngine as the base for most of our custom-designed websites with additional HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as needed. Average Squarespace projects usually had 2000+ lines of CSS and upwards of 100-200 lines of JavaScript; more complicated solutions went up from there.
