Senior Staff Software Engineer
Technical leader of the Infrastructure Operations team which designs and implements business application cloud infrastructure and our engineering platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). We used Terraform for IaC, Helm with GCP Config Connector for application deployment, and Gitlab for SCC and CI/CD. I was initially the sole member of this team and introduced the use of Terraform and cloud security best practices. During my tenure the team migrated all of the existing infrastructure from hand-deployed, uncontrolled resources to Terraform, while simultaneously deploying new resources to support ongoing product development. Prior to the establishment of a Data Operations team, our team managed and maintained all of the back office systems including Big Query, self-hosted Looker, Snowplow, GCP AI Notebooks, etc. Prior to the establishment of the Developer Experience team, our team managed all of the engineering tooling including Gitlab and all pre-production environments. In addition, the team provided a rotating support function for all cloud systems. The team grew to a peak size of 10 members by 2022. I also developed various tools and support software including a custom Terraform provider, secure internal file sharing, transparent envelope encryption for inbound customer specific ETL, fully automated outbound customer file delivery, business application secret management, etc. These tools were written in Go or Python 3.Acted as HIPAA Security Officer and the technical domain expert in regular audits, including contractually mandated customer security audits, external HIPAA-focused customer data security audits, external penetration Tests, the initial SOC2 Type I certification and thereafter the annual SOC 2 Type II certification audits, HITRUST certification, disaster recovery and incident response tabletop exercises, and our internal Compliance and Security training. In this capacity I worked closely with our Legal, Compliance and Security teams.
