I performed my Master of Science reasearch in this position, with the title: LC-MS/MS analysis of human small intestinal cell models treated with different probiotic strains.The first three month were dedicated towards developing a LC-MS/MS method on how to analyze the type of cell lysates that would be used for the project. Cell model experiments were carried out in Kantvik, Finland were I spend three months, growing CaCo-2, HT29-MTX and EpiIntestinal tissues. These cells were then treated with different concentrations of five different probiotic strains. After treatment were the cell models lyzed, digested and analyzed with LC-MS/MS and the proteins that were quantified could be put into a biological context with proteome discoverer.

I have had courses within lipid biotechnology and some hands-on experience with applied lipid biotechnology, where I have worked with interestification, compositional analysis and quantification of lipids. Using chemcad to estimate new components physical properties. Neutralization of fats. Bleaching of vegetable oils. Comparing chemical and enzymatic interestification through HPLC analysis of oils. Direct SFC-NMR to determine solid fat contents of margerine fats. Producing monoglycerides by enzymatic glycerolysis of sunflower oil. Immobilization of lipase through crosslinking. Studied kinetics of lipases by comparing activity of three different lipases. Purify oils by using short path destillation. I have worked with protein and carbohydrates, where we have studied directed evolution, by looking at different host system and how to insert a plasmid into a host. I have worked with Phage display, ELISAqPCR and western blotting.

In my bachelor in biotechnology have I touched different aspects of biotechnology, with courses in unit operation, math, chemistry and biology. For my elective courses have I chosen courses that would direct my profile towards the field of food science. I finished my bachelor with the grade B (10), where i worked with the LC-MS/MS analysis of CaCo-2 cells that I had treated with different concentrations of fecal water, that came from people who had ingested certain probiotics.
