Worked with a team of Year Here fellows for 8 weeks to develop an innovative strategy for a new grantmaking charity with a budget of £50k/year. The key output was a scoping paper outlining the strategy and operations of the new participatory grantmaking charity, which will give residents of Barking & Dagenham direct decision-making powers over the allocation of funds for community projects, maximising inclusiveness, community empowerment, responsiveness to needs and grantee collaboration.* Created scoping paper covering: theory of change, long-term vision, application criteria, decision-making process, funding mechanism, monitoring & evaluation, grantee support and plans for key events.* Designed and delivered workshops to assist trustees in deciding on key variables for the charity* Synthesised a wide variety of information to fit recommendations to insights, with sources including: interviews with experts and VCSE leaders, community consultation events, secondary research, etc.

The frontline placement of Year Here, where I worked in a team to get the new asset-based community-building project, EastXchange, off the ground. This involved identifying the key issues faced by the fledgling project, before designing and implementing innovative initiatives to tackle them.* Designed and delivered launch event, where ~50 community members co-designed the future of EastXchange. Was met with very positive feedback from both service users and staff members, who will be using the activities as a template for future events.* Created a community steering group, designing and delivering a workshop to co-create a community buddy scheme. Steering group members will be trained to become community leaders, ensuring the longevity of EastXchange, whilst the buddy scheme will ease the integration process for newcomers and build confidence in both parties.* Established partnership between mental health self-help group "The Lifehouse" and EastXchange, providing clients with a valuable user-led service.* Designed and delivered project-based Digital Inclusion workshop to replace the siloed, uninteractive sessions used in the past.

Worked closely with five local entrepreneurs from the informal sector to identify and implement growth opportunities, as well as to use Excel financial modelling to support their pitch for an interest-free loan. (Awarded Martin Le Cornu Fund by Churchill College—only one student a year receives this travel grant.)* Implemented a range of improvements to the businesses that increased profits from both existing and new channels—all entrepreneurs my team worked with secured full loans (average success rate is approximately 50%)* Elected by group to be responsible for measuring and evaluation of the programme’s impact, as well as to serve on pitching panel—analysed businesses and interviewed candidates in order to make funding decisions according to detailed quantitative and qualitative criteria
