The Award was founded in 2000 at the University Club of Washington DC and is managed by the Tewaaraton Foundation, a non-profit organization made up of a Board of Directors and Staff. The mission of the Tewaaraton Foundation is to uphold the original purpose of the Award and to provide scholarships to Native American high school seniors in the Iroquois Nation.

I played college lacrosse for The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Upon graduating in 2004 I was drafted 11th overall to the Boston Cannons where I started in 3 games. After Fracturing my femur and missing all of the 2005 season I was released and drafted by the then Baltimore Bayhawks. I have been with this franchise (now the Washington Bayhawks) ever since. During the next three years we will be playing our home games at Navy Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.
