My company provides software design and consulting services. Our products have included porting CopWrangler for use by the Oregon Association of Police Chiefs. CopWrangler was used to manage their membership list, track dues payments, update their Apache web site in real-time and send out mass mailings. More recently at Sassenach, I created SkySpy, a data-bridge program used to capture weather data samples from a La Crosse personal weather station and send real-time weather updates to two separate public web sites - Weather Underground and WeatherFlow. It also includes a weather alert feature that sends SMTP or SMS messages to the user if sensor readings go outside user-selected alarm points.SkySpy is a windows service that fully simulates the La Crosse IIS server and it's back end. It parses large amounts of undocumented binary sensor data normally transmitted to this private server and handshakes the transactions with the weather station hardware over TCP/IP. Developing SkySpy took substantial effort to reverse engineer the binary protocols and the meanings of numerous types of handshake packets.Previous projects include software for configuring and tracking the FALCOM MAMBO GPS, GSM/GPRS pendant. This shirt pocket sized device was intended for use in senior citizen facilities to track patient locations and to allow them alert staff with a "panic button". The GPS could be configured with a geofencing feature to sound an alarm if the user exited a safe zone. It also provided basic cell phone capability for the user. I wrote a utility to debug and configure the device over a Bluetooth interface.

I focus on machine to machine communications, including security alarm receivers and Web Services. I am also working on high capacity, two way automated SMS texting projects and remote controlled PTZ security cameras. Capturing real-time steaming video from security cameras and presenting it to security system personnel is another one of my projects.
I manage the IT Department and develop software for this and other companies. I authored CopWrangler, a membership manager and web site update tool. CopWrangler is used by law enforcement advocacy organizations in both Washington and Oregon state. I also wrote eJail, an inventory control, billing and report generator used to monitor offenders on home-detention, their alcohol testing and other court ordered testing.I wrote the Washington State Missing Persons web site. This PHP application keeps track of all missing persons reports filed with the Washington State Patrol. The software downloads police reports from the WSP via HTTPS, expunges personal information and displays it in near real time on our web site.
I was the lead developer at this location and designed most of the infrastructure.I designed life safety software for first responders and persons working in hazardous environments or confined spaces. Software included chemical, nuclear and biological sensor suites, man-down detectors, HAZMAT hotzone management, and transmission of sensor data over narrow band UHF links.Tools and Technologies:Software: Delphi 7 & 2005, Nexus DB, Interbase, COM, ESRI Tracking Analyst, Gigasoft ProEssentials, developed custom VOIP protocol for low bandwidth satellite links with long ping times. Developed compressed/encrypted data protocols suitable for very low bandwidth telemetry links.Hardware: UHF and VHF voice and data transceivers, digital and analog circuitry prototyping, interfacing software and esoteric hardware, radiation sensors, nerve gas sensors, toxic/explosive industrial gas sensors, Bluetooth, GPS, inertial navigation, heads up displays.

My duties include management of the department responsible for the maintenance of 80 personal computers and several servers in a 200 employee aircraft parts company. In addition to managing my staff, I personally designed network topologies, built and repaired servers/personal computers, and monitored the day to day operation of the data center. Using my extensive knowledge of RF and electronic test equipment I designed numerous test suites, used to tune and test aircraft antennas on the production floor. My software allowed minimally trained technicians to perform complex tests quickly and reliably. I also wrote several applications used in the R&D department to evaluate new antenna designs.I designed interface software for the company's MFG Pro ERP/MRP system. My software minimized the number of terminal licenses required, thereby reducing costs.I wrote the embedded firmware for an aircraft mounted DBS antenna that tracked a satellite broadcasting television signals while the plane was on the ground or in flight. The antenna stepper motor rotated the antenna as the aircraft turned and banked, maximizing the signal to the receiver.I designed a number of AutoCAD extensions written in AutoLISP, used by the drafting department.Tools / Technologies:Software: LabWindows CVI, Cosmic C, LabView, MFG Pro, Borland Pascal 7, AutoCADHardware: GPS, magnetometer compass, tilt sensor, scalar network analyzer, vector network analyzer, noise figure meters, RF power meters, signal generators, microwave relays, spectrum analyzer, anechoic chamber, stepper motors, servo motors
My software consulting company developed custom software for a wide range of technologies - ranging from legal office automation to satellite data transmission protocols. As a senior programmer, I designed complete projects, wrote code (in several languages) and debugged to the assembly code level. As a business manager I wrote quotes, specs, documentation, development contracts, and interface directly with clients. I handled all aspects of managing my 7 employees. Our client list included: NASA, Westlake Village Comunications, Prudential Securities, Smith Barney, Amgen, Practical Peripherals, Utoptics, Miara, EMPower RF Systems, Newsmaker Systems, Subway, Milestone Technologies, Miltenyi BioTech, Forob, ClassicPlan, Blue Ribbon Music, Decade Software, JCA, ICS Trucking, SportsCards Online, Sensor Systems, 3DBM Inc., EEsof, Amplica, Dynatech Microwave Technologies, 3DBM Systems, Systron Donner Microwave Div., Systron Donner Instrument Div.Technology / ToolsSoftware: Delphi, Borland Pascal 7, Keil C, AssemblyTechnology created: Space shuttle communications system tester, power amplifier controller firmware, retirement portfolio analysis, gas chromatograph interface, dialup modem test software, precision measurement system using modulated laser, Email system used to move stories and scripts around television newsrooms, distributed information collection system for restaurant franchise, ultra-reliable data over satellite link, lawyer's office tool suite, car insurance premium calculator, music royalty calculator, child immunization schedule algorithm, automated test of microwave components, truck freight charge calculator, online auctions of sports trading cards, web page scrapersHardware: Microwave signal generators, microwave power amplifiers (1 KW), gas chromatograph, dialup modems, precision laser measurement systems, optics, beam steering networks
