These have included a Biomass Energy Centre and a Wood Processing Plant to produce the fuel pellets.These sites demanded specific engineering techniques to satisfy basic site restrictions and simple site constraints.SUR1 for sustainable homes has changed the conventional approach to house building and presents some challenging engineering conundrums requiring both sound engineering techniques and flexible solutions to resolve.

Working from the Whangarei Office in New Zealand and responsible for the project management of various developments including the construction of a new one million dollar highway link, and the design of a new drainage infrastructure linking a large housing community, currently connected to individual septic tanks, back to a treatment works to avoid further contamination of the ground.Working as a Team Leader in charge of a '4 man' team responsible for the development and growth of the water and drainage section.There are many differences between UK and New Zealand solutions and these are influenced by various factors, including the climate and availability of materials. Although these differences exist, the basic engineering principles remain constant, and this experience was both interesting and challenging.

Senior Engineer then Associate team leader controlling the Civil Section. Responsibilities include: staff supervision, co-ordination and training, the design of drainage systems, highways and external works for a wide range of developments. Computer software use includes: Microdrainage to produce models and simulations to meet the adoption requirements of the Water Authorities and PDS ground modelling design suit for highway design and volumetric calculations.

Responsible for the control and co-ordination of assigned projects including management of staff and resources to meet with predetermined targets. Design of external works for numerous and varied projects including housing schemes, road networks, site reclamation, gravity drainage systems and pumping stations. Ground treatment works including site investigation, management of contaminants and ground stabilisation techniques. Extensive use of both the PDS ground modelling package and the Microdrainage suit of programs to aid design and meet adoption requirements. Use of CAD packages including AutoCad and FastCad to produce working drawings.
