I led a team of architects and principal engineers, reporting to the VP of engineering. Our mission was to help build out the Instructure Learning Platform to unite all of Instructure's products, and keep advancing Canvas - the leading Learning Management System. I strove to improve the systems design and operation of Instructure products, evolving towards a distributed tiered system with product application teams from multiple products developing on top of shared backend services. I worked with over 200 engineers in US and Europe to foster a culture of experimentation and align on a shared technical roadmap.

Led the rapidly growing Orders Aggregation team at Square, which built API solutions for first and third-party customers to support our mission of empowering sellers to succeed by helping them throughout their entire business lifecycle. We developed a new high-volume low-latency search and reporting platform that unlocks self-serve, aggregation, and query capabilities of Orders data. * Grew a distributed backend team from 5 to 9 engineers. Added a second frontend team of 3 engineers and brought together as one meta team to improve alignment. Responsible for all hiring and performance management. * Navigated complex technical and organizational challenges to create a roadmap and plan for building new orders search, aggregation/reporting, and receipts platforms. * Partnered with product managers to set the team's quarterly OKR's, come up with ideas for achieving them, and guided the team to implement them. * Guided discussions across multiple stakeholders to consensus and clear action items. * Continuously looked for opportunities to refine or develop rituals for the team to support its growing scale. * Supported legacy reporting platform, with regular retros to look for ways to improve on-call debugging and make developer quality of life better.

Mozu was acquired by Kibo, a leader in cloud-based omnichannel commerce solutions, on October 18, 2016.I led the Kibo eCommerce platform development team. I was responsible for managing the development team and architecting key areas of the platform including product catalog & pricing, search, and core service bus and PubSub systems. Collaborating closely with Product Management, DevOps, and Marketing, I strove to keep the Kibo platform at the forefront of modern eCommerce technologies using agile methodology with a weekly release cadence. I started work on a large effort to re-architect the platform to run on AWS instead of a private cloud.

Resumed working on the eDell Search Service as a consultant, adding new features and improving performance and stability. Created a new internal control panel web site using ASP.NET MVC for managing various Dell.com search functionality. Worked on a prototype of a new product catalog using a CQRS design and the RavenDB document database. Restarted and led the US-based eDell search team. Built a completely new enterprise search service platform on Dell.com to get processed data and facets/categories for displaying products, support drivers, and community content. Designed and implemented an API for various applications in both .NET & Java to use for accessing the search service in an extremely flexible and configurable manner. Utilized the Razor view engine to process search query templates offline in a dynamic fashion. Built a Search UX prototype (future replacement for search.dell.com) using ASP.NET MVC3, C#, jQuery, Ajax, & HTML/CSS calling internal service-based APIs for data. Designed and implemented index profile schemas and search queries using Microsoft FAST ESP. Became adept with many enterprise search concepts and technologies. Created database schemas and stored procedures using SQL Server, and .NET data access components. Improved the legacy Dell search service and search.dell.com web site with new features and improvements. Promoted agile development practices with sprints, daily scrum meetings, code reviews, planning and retrospectives. Mentored teammates where needed on .NET and enterprise search techniques and put effort into getting eDell teams to proactively work together and increase developer productivity. Part of a council of Dell and Microsoft architects that evaluated new technologies and developed the strategy for how to personalize the web experience based on analytics and observed behavior.
