In March 2014 I was approached by NCC Skills and offered a position involving telesales, telemarketing and Business Development, where I am responsible for selling government funded BKSB Maths and English courses into the SME market, but primarily into the Health Sector. These courses are wrapped as a sector specific offering under several flavours including Understanding Dementia Care, Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, Infection Control, Safe Handling of Medicines, Healthy Eating and Food Hygiene, all of which have to include either BKSB Maths or English to qualify for ESF or SFA funding. I own a geographic patch and account manage 10 to 12 tutors, ensuring their order books are full of training to be delivered over an 8 week period. I continuously hit my daily 2 hour call volume, talk time and sales targets, achieving on average 5 to 10 sales a week of approximately 20 placements each, worth around £16,000 to £32,000 a week to NCC in revenue. Although I am happy at NCC Skills, my role does not provide the same level of fulfilment as my 3aaa Apprenticeship role therefore I would welcome the opportunity to apply my experience in Apprenticeships, Business Development and Account Management, as I believe I have a number of transferable skills which would be of interest to Urban Futures.

In October 2012, I joined Aspire, Advance, Achieve, or 3aaa, working as a Recruitment Executive for their National IT Partnership (NiTP), at St. Albans Academy based at Oaklands College, where I have been responsible for recruiting and placing students into ICT apprenticeship roles and, recruiting the next cohort and subsequently placing these in employment on a quarterly basis. A hugely personally rewarding role, this role brings together my experiences in recruitment, account management and new business development from my previous employment at Impact Teachers, Square One and Engage Education, Sport England, and applies these skills to a whole new area.I am responsible for placing 16 to 24 year old ICT Apprentices into local businesses, in and around Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire. The role involves preparing students for interview, outbound calling and face to face meetings with potential clients, new business development and account management of clients and, the placement and management of students whilst they undertake a 12 month apprenticeship scheme, which will hopefully lead to full time employment. During my short time at 3aaa I have been nominated and received the award of Employee of the Month by my Academy Manager, and recognised by the Regional Managers, both here and across the UK, for my commitment, boundless enthusiasm, thorough and professional approach to my role.

I worked with schools providing teaching solutions on a daily, short-term or long-term basis. I provided an honest and quality service to my clients and teachers to ensure the teachers we place match the clients’ ethos. I’d have a “second” to achieve this because of competition for candidates from other agencies. I was asked to direct the team on morning sessions in order to place the right teachers at the right schools using the correct strategy to ensure business needs are achieved and further bookings for teachers are created.Key to this was building trust with my schools and, the teachers I served. My judgement is trusted so that I would place properly qualified, skilled and experienced teachers to meet my client’s needs. I was totally honest with my clients and candidates, this built trust, loyalty and a solid long term relationship that underpinned the Impact Teachers brand. This generated new business through word of mouth and my reputation within the business. We ran canvass calling sessions throughout the day with targets of 20 calls per day which I always achieved. I had weekly business reviews with my Director where I was expected to landscape my customer base and understand where the next placement will come from. This meant knowing my teachers, their skills and availability and, my clients, their needs and matching the two. I was very highly thought of by my senior management team and felt valued and my hard work was constantly recognised by the Directors of Impact Teachers and my peers. I brought into the company £1500 to £3000 per week on placements during school term paying for myself at least four times over on any given month.

I joined Square One, recruiting Oracle permanent posts however, I joined a failing team where good candidates were contract, not permanent (as they could earn more), reducing my opportunity to succeed. The team was disbanded and I approached Impact Teachers as they had made me an offer in 9/11 and stated, when I declined the role that I would be welcomed back if it didn’t work out, which I did. At Square One I gained a good understanding of the IT market, particular for SAP and Oracle. I achieved the most leads two months running, and was rewarded with a £200 M&S voucher.

After leaving Sport England for a new challenge, I started working for Engage Education as a Resource Consultant, finding candidates for roles within the Education sector. I hosted Teachers from Canada and Ireland to interviews across the South East called “interview day” or iday, I briefed them on the schools and roles they were being interviewed for with 97% of placements achieved.This achievement was recognised by the Sales Director (Ben Matthews), who fast tracked me into sales, where I worked a 12 hour day, making 120 calls of an average duration of 2 to 3 minutes talk time to identify vacancies, forward candidates and secure placements, reverse pitch candidates, promote the iday events and secure commitment from schools to attend. This involved using sales tactics to bypass “gatekeepers” and identify where roles were within schools (or gain intelligence on vacancies elsewhere) and gain commitment to Engage Education to fulfil these roles.Unfortunately, Engage Education had expanded based on sales achievement in 2009/10 and, due to severe Government funding cuts, schools were not in a position to recruit and Engage underperformed against target. This resulted in wholesale redundancies and, under the “Last in First out” rule, I was laid off.

For the last three years, I have worked towards the development of the London 2012 Olympic Games. I have been part of the funding process for a variety of projects from the Olympic Games and National projects such as Wembley Stadium and the procurement process for the National Centres contract, which includes Bisham Abbey, considered key for Sport England and the UK Government. I have also worked on Local and Grass Root projects, looking to provide better sustainable facilities and increased participation for the Olympic Legacy.
